Is black stool common after gastric bypass? Very early out.

Tmi..But I have had one very very small bowel movement since surgery Monday and it was quite dark. Is this normal?? I have no cramping or fever etc.

Im thinking it may be old blood from the surgery..I think they may have told me that at one point..as long as Im feeling fine I will try not to worry.

I am 4 days post-op and all the stools I have had are black and runny. I haven't been passing gas too much though, but am hurting in my left shoulder. The nurse said that it could be from the gas they used to blow up my stomach. So, I am sipping, and walking my butt off. I am hoping that will help. But as far as the blacks stools, I would say that it is fairly common. If you get worried, talk to your doctor.

I don't know about that.. black stools can be a sign of internal bleeding. Mine have actually lightened in color ever since surgery.

I would definitely ask your doctor, especially if you are this early out.

Wondering if you're feeling normal?? I blog about everything!! Check my page out for more!

I will call my dr tomorrow and ask to be safe..but the more I think about it I think they mentioned I might see some early out from the surgery itself.

it's usually a sign that you've been taking lots of iron suppliments.....

I had my surgery on the 18th. I was told that if I passed any black stool it's just old blood from surgery. but just to be safe call your dr. to confirm. i would think if your passing bright red than that would be a sign of internal bleeding.
