Anyone who has actually, you know, compared the vitamins to adult counterparts or to certain bariatric supplements would see that they are not the same quality.

My husband can't take pills.  He has normal guts.  And he still thinks it's stupid as hell for anyone over the age of 10 to take children's vitamins.  There is a reason they are in the shape of cartoon characters.

Additionally, docs that continue to recommend these are generally guilty of recommending TUMS to their patients... another completely reprehensible and careless action.

Docs *****commend vitamins that will force their patients to be malnourished should be disbarred.  Period.

Doctors?  Disbarred??  How would one do that?

Fuck.

Can you tell that I become an idiot when faced with complete abject stupidity?  I see people risking their health in such manners and my intelligence drops 30 points.

Of course, I meant, they should have their licenses revoked.

Stupid me.

Yup, Andrea, as time goes on, it's becoming more and more apparent that Flintstones alone are painfully insufficient. The type of iron in those vitamins is not absorbable by the majority of us, and you, Andrea, may need infusions to get your ferritin levels up. I am taking vitalady's magic iron forumlation now and will recheck if I've made any progress on my 11 ferritin level in one month. He'll agree to an infusion if it hasn't climbed in that time.  These deficiencies often don't show up for YEARS.  If you are "low normal" on something, it probably means that NEXT YEAR you will be low, and you need to tweak that particular supplement.  These people saying, "my one-year labs were perfect," are a JOKE!

RNYers also cannot absorb B12. You'll need special formulations of that as well as calcium CITRATE to prevent bone loss. When you have your labwork, if your PTH is elevated (even IF your blood calcium levels are fine), it means your body is leaching calcium from your bones to keep the level in your blood sufficient. This BONE LOSS can NEVER be replaced. It can be stopped -- but not replaced. Once the damage is done, it's done. As for B12 deficiency, scary **** there, too. People should NOT **** around with this ****:

Peculiar symptoms of even borderline vitamin b12 deficiency

My PCP just agreed to a referral (probably because my NEURO told her to do it) to a hematologist.

I waited a week.  Called the hematologist to see if it had been made.  It hadn't.

Called my PCP.  Got a call back the next day while I was sleeping and hubby forgot to tell me until 6:30.  On Friday night.

So I'll be calling back tomorrow to see what they say.

The GI doc put me on a new iron.. it's simply a ferrous fumarate combo with a ****load of B's.  I've just ordered some water-miscible A because I've learned that will help resistant anemia.  And I'm probably heading for some transfusions.  Just took awhile to get my PCP to see that this was not a "good thing" and that I really do like to have the ability to, you know, move around with enough energy to do stuff.

I think Vitalady would tell you you might as well toss that ferrous fumarate into the loo.  It'd do you just as much good.  You should try her tender iron, or the poly -saccharide iron.  Those have been proven to work on even vitalady's distal RNY.  She has ferritin of over 300!

Her tender iron is carbonyl iron 25mgs.

I take 12 of those suckers a day, with vite c, and a ton of b-vites.  I suck.

I'm *hoping* the new vite a will assist.. but I dunnow.. I'm kinda skeptical about it.

Everyone is different I have said that... What works for me may not work dor you or anyone else.

Trust me I know what being deficent in vitamins and minerals can do to a body. I see patients everyday with HIV and other issues come through our clinic. The HIV patients needs the most nutrients and vitamins as RNY's. So having said that the doctor who treats them have continued education constantly and nutition is one of them.

Unless you are a doctor you shoud not think you answeres are correct and someone else has stupidity.. Unless you work in their enviroment then you truly dont know what they do or do not know. Now, if you dont beleive in your surgeon then you have some other issues.

Joke... you might add.. Just cause you had a bad lab doesnt mean anyone elses wasnt great.. You can only speak from your experience and let others speak from theirs.

To add most RNY patient take additional B12 medication anyway. I have taken this from day one weekly...

So do you think antibiotics for children are a joke as well? Once again, they are the same medications you or I would take but the dosage is a lot higher for an adult then a child. My son at age 7 was taken an adult motrin for pain becuase he broke his inger. it was based on his weight not his age factor. If you look at most children medicines they are based on weight and age. When your doctor writes your child a prescription they chek the weight to ensure the child is getting not to much medication but just enough to help the child right? right?

As far as Iron and blood count, mine are better since I had a hystrectomy in 1998. My leves were so slow they wanted to do a blood transfusion due to excessive heavy periods. So with RNY and heavy periods they can cause low iron and blood count levels. That is why most people take additonal iron becuase of this.

Again, like I said talk to your surgeon, nutritionist and the will tell you what is best for YOU!!! We'll see where I am at in 5+years to pick back up the redundant argument against the mind over matter theory...  my mind against your matter

Until then.... continuing education is an important factor when it comes to your health

Like Andrea already said, good luck with that.

No, I'm not a doctor, but my surgeon is in Mexico, and I don't believe in nutritionists (they're idiots).  I do my OWN research, and with my doctors help, I remedy my own needs.  This is how I keep healthy.  I don't rely on doctors to do it.  I'd be very sick if I did.
