Per my Dr.'s instructions I take two a day.  One in the morning and one at night.  Labs look great. Have been on them since my surgery of March 2007.  I also take b12 injections every month and 2 Caltrate D's.  Vitamin D. was a little low so that is why he put me on them.  Everything is fine.

Caltrate is not bioavailable in RNY guts.  Dr. Moran should know better.

They *don't* compare to bariatric vitamins.  PERIOD.

If cost is an issue, go for Centrum Silver Chewables.  They have more stuff in them than the flintstone's, in formulations DESIGNED for adult humans.  If you *must* have a children's vitamin, take Centrum Kid's.

Between this post and the ones above about TUMS, I'm really concerned for you.  Either you have an idiot for a nut and surgeon, or you are not following their recommendations.

Talk to TanyaSF about the ramifications of NOT taking vits ...That should scare everyone into really doing proper supplemention.   2 Flintstones a day just ain't going to cut it. Educate yourself.

I'm new here but I would like to say that I am really disappointed in the tone of this thread.
Andrea, while I appreciate your information and am sorry to hear about your personal experience with vitamin deficiencies, I find you a bit disrespectful.  I would hope that if I had a serious question about something you would not attack my physician/nutritionist.  This is serious business.  We are all taking HUGE risks with our health.  Most of us spent a great deal of time coming to this decision and finding a surgeon we were comfortable with....and I don't think it is kind of you to dismiss that so quickly because you have been given different information.

I have found several threads where people disagreed and they didn't find it necessary to speak to someone like you have.  Telling someone to go ahead take them and when it makes them sick they will see?  NICE.

I was also told that Flintstones were okay.  I have been told to take 3 a day.  I have been told to take B1, B12, zinc and calcium CITRATE (not TUMS) also.  I appreciate the information about the Flintstones and will look into them to see if they are going to cause me problems in the future.  I have the Centrum vitamins but found  them hard to gag down (chewable).

I guess my question about this is .....Why would so many of our docs say the Flintstones were okay if , in fact, they are not???  Also, it is my NUTRITIONIST that said the Flintstones were okay.  They taught us in our NUT class to take Flintstones.  They warned us against other childrens vitamins that were not complete but said Flintstones were.....I am by no means an expert.

I hope someone will post some good information about this topic in a POSITIVE and RESPECTFUL way.  I am very curious now.

I'm not being disrespectful.  I'm being blunt, honest, and forthright.  Is this rude in your opinion?  Maybe, but you don't want to see me actually being rude.

Here's the deal:  I'VE LIVED THIS.  TanyaSF almost died and has permanent disability for following horrible advice and not researching.  I mean, her kids play jokes on her knowing she won't remember if she told them to make their beds or that they were grounded.  And it doesn't get better.

If a "slap" in the face makes *one* person say "woah!  I need to make sure I'm doing what I'm supposed to be doing" then it was worth the few people that get pissy with my direct manner.  And make no bones about it (ask my support group yesterday), I will be direct as hell.. but I will bend over backwards to help anyone out that genuinely want help.

I'm not going to name any names.. if she wants to come forward she can.  One lady was *very* mad about my delivery.  She has since figured out that I'm not doing this to be a ***** -- I'm doing this to save people's lives and to help people avoid the hell that I live.

Now, if you want sparkles and rainbows, then you'll find enough people to give them to you.  However, if you want hard, cold truth.. I will tell you exactly what you need to know.

And quite honestly.. even though you are offended by my manner, the fact that you realize that *maybe* you need to look at your supplementation?  Score for me.  You may hate me, not like me.. but you are taking your own health into your hands and that's super.  And for that, I will weather people who don't like my tone, manner, or delivery.
