Wendy....I was worried too before surgery. Now...I don't even crave any of those things...except for Starbucks. Pre-op I used to drink Venti Mocha Fraps...can't (don't even want)drink them anymore. My car does pull into Starbucks at least twice a week on the way to work. These days I drink...a grande iced Skinny Vanilla Latte. 90 calories vs the hundreds I USED to consume at Starbucks

Hey Barb...I'm addicted to Starbucks!  Maybe there's hope after I reach my goal!  I LOVE coffee!  I used to drink the Venti Mocha Fraps-QUAD SHOTs of espresso!  Holy Calories!

Before WLS I was living to eat.  After WLS I am eating to live.  I think everyone goes through the I will never be able to eat this or that again.  And then you cram it down your throat like there is no tomorrow.  Then you hate yourself even more that one slice of cheesecake turned into the whole cake.  It's hard to think about the stuff you love to eat, will be what you can't have after surgery.
Yes you'll miss the candied apples, but you can have 1/2 an apple with sugar free caramel topping by Smuckers.
You need to check out WorldAccordingToEggface.com
Michelle has wonderful recipes, protein ice creams, even chocolate brownies.  All of it sugar free, but plenty of protein.  You'll find it easier as time goes on.
Good luck !

Hey Amber-Thanks for your post!  I see you're in "J-ville"  I'll be moving down to Camp Lejeune in March!  My husband has 2 years left in the Marine Corps and then he retires.  We're planning to stay down there indefinitely!

I used to adore watching The Barefoot Contessa on FoodTV using copious amounts of butter and cream and cheese in every damn dish she made - the richness of it - now the very idea turns my stomach......I used to use a pound of butter a week - I haven't purchased any butter in over 20 months.......and the few times I tried even just a little bit on some steamed veges etc. - it made me ill.........if that can change for me - anything is possible.  There are other things to crave....and long for - but none of them equals the pride I have in my thin strong very fit body.........Susan

Susan,  You nailed it!  Good for you!  I was reading a little bit of your profile and (really enjoyed the helicopter-guy part by the way) noticed that you had a bmi close to mine, but you were turned down because you did not have significant co-morbs.  I'm in the same boat, so please say a small quiet prayer for me to get approved!  Wendy

Hi Wendy - I have found something that tastes even better than a milkshake! Lightfull Satiety Smoothie - All natural 90 calories, 5 grams of both protein & fiber BUT it does have 12 grams of sugar - (un)lucky me has no side effects on sugar so I can eat anything! They come in both chocolate & cafe latte along with 3 other fruit flavors. I just whip these up in the blender with a bunch of ice and it makes a wonderful thick milkshake just like a Wendy's frosty. I add PB2 & caramel davinci syrup to the chocolate one (tastes just like a frozen snickers bar) and hazelnut Davinci syrups to the cafe latte one. I have these frozen treats just about once a week as a special treat - probably more often during the hot summer.

You can still have good things you just have to be creative about what you eat. And there is a ton of good healthy food choices out there that taste fantastic!

Okay...this is sounding a lot easier than what I thought it would.  You mean, I can still eat things that actually have TASTE and to boot, it's kind of healthy?  Thanks for the post!

I know a lot of people have written something similar to what I'm about to say, but honestly the food really isn't THAT important anymore.  When it comes to foods, I only have 2 thoughts.  1. Is it healthy?  2. Will it go down easy?

My biggest fear is getting sick from foods.  I find eating almost very inconvenient and am finding that I enjoy my hobbies so much more because I'm not just focused on eating all the time.  I enjoy seeing my friends and family more and I'm just enjoying life.

This procedure totally saved me from my self and the life I was going to have.

You know, I am hearing people say over and over that everything changes and priorities with food are to just eat because you have to, and not because you want to.  Thanks for your post!
