Upper Lip Piercing-Endoscopy

I have a monroe piercing in my upper lip and I'm having an endoscopy on Tuesday-will this need to be taken out?  Anyone know the rules of piercings and surgery, if there are any?  I called my dr and the lady said, 'i'm not sure, they'll tell you when you get there but i would if i were you'.  well, i can't just take it out-the piercer has to do it so...

For every surgery I have had they make you take out ALL piercings everywhere.

I was also told I had to take out all piercings prior to endoscopy and surgery.  Not sure how much they enforce that, but since they will be in that same area, I bet they want it out. 

I had to take out my nose ring. Earrings were ok

do you know if then you can get spacers so they don't close or did you gals just let them close?

I took out my tongue piercing. Didn't put anything in for surgery. But when I got to my room I put in a plastic retainer(spacer) to keep it open.

yes most likely...get an acrylic or plastic retainer...you can find them on the net or at HOT TOPIC type stores...good luck!

I had to take out all my piercings for surgery, but not for the endoscopy. I don't have one in my lip, so it might be a different story for you (My guess is that you will have to remove it). But I have one in my nose and in my tregus (sp). The nose was easy but the tregus was a pain. They don't make spacers for the tregus so I had to improvize. I got a pack of plastic nose rings and twisted it around and hooked it through my tregus...I hate taking that one out.

They made me take my nose pin out.  It did okay.  I re-inserted it right after and all was well.  Hope you the best!  Big Hug, Nan
