isopure PLUS Zero Carb Clear Whey Protein Drink

isopure PLUS.

60 calories, 15 grams of protein, and totally sugar and carb-free.  Much easier to handle than the previous big twenty ounce glass bottles, yes?  I would venture to assume this is targeted to bariatric babies, and those with compromised systems, taking in very little food.

Isopure Plus is the first clear nutrition beverage for people who need pure quality protein for specific medical and nutritional needs. Anyone suffering from cancer, HIV/AIDS, recovering from Gastric Bypass surgery or simply unable to digest protein solids needs an easily digested, stomach-friendly and lactose free alternative to Boost and Ensure.

Isopure Plus Zero Carb Protein Drink is ideal for diabetics and gastric bypass surgery patients as well as for anyone who wants to minimize their carb intake.

Isopure Plus 0 Carb features (per 8 oz. bottle):
• 15 grams of protein (100% pure whey protein isolate)
• Zero Fat
• Zero Carbs
• 60 Calories
• Lactose Free
• Gluten Free

On first glance, I am very happy to see this product as a reformulated eight ounce drink.  The original Isopure in the glass bottles was one of my saving proteins as an early post-op, but twenty ounce glass bottles.  Really.

Bottoms up.

The smell:  slightly fruit punchy.

The texture:  it's a clear liquid, not exactly h20, but more viscous, but juuuuust slightly.  It's just a step above water.  Please note this is coming from the girl who won't LOOK at Jello products without wretching.  I know texture.)  It's completely smooth of course, and entirely pleasant to my sensory integration system.

The taste:  muted fruit punch, like diluted LIGHT Hawaiian Punch, but with whey!  The protein is not quite evident, but you know it's there.

The aftertaste:  There's a lack of protein after-tongue-feel.  HOORAY.  I do not feel the urge to brush my tongue.

  • Product -  isopure PLUS
  • Via - Nature's Best
  • Price -  $2
  • Pros - 60 calories, 15 grams of pure whey protein, perfect supplemental protein nutrition for bariatric patients.
  • Cons - None, really.  I will try to find some.
  • Rating - Absolutely pouchworthy MM

Isopure plus launches officially January 1st, 2009.  There will be ads, commercials, etc. I am looking for more sites that sell it.  I got it directly from Nature's Best/Isopure.

I am taking a stab that it will be found in this spot on Nature's Bests' website also for more information, and I will share more as I see it.  It's available NOW by the case at CWI Medical.  Search for ISOPURE PLUS in the top right hand search bar.  I will venture to guess that after the first there will be more locations selling at least 6-packs by the onesie.

Edited to add - I see it at another website, think of my review what you will now,  this is an alternative description: "You'll love this all new, fruity good, protein drink!  New Isopure PLUS, is a great tasting solution to our protein needs. Zero Sugar, Zero Lactose, Zero Carbs - made with pure whey isolate that is so clear it has ZERO after taste. Grape Frost and Fruit Punch are kids drink delicious without being too sweet."

I never said you'd love it, but I did equate it to diluted Hawaiian Punch  (with protein, of course!)  LOL.

Thanks MM.  I wonder if they carry this at GNC???  I'll have to find out.  The other Isopure was almost syrupy.  I tried to drink it but gagged!!!!  Maybe this will be better.

HI MM, I know every ones tastes are different. But, does this stuff really taste good. The 20oz bottles taste like chalk to me.I don't know if it was because I was drinking them the first few days following surgery or what.
I am only about 3 weeks out and it is getting harder for me to get the protein shakes down so anything that tastes better will be great.
thank you for the review. Kathy

It's very similar.  At three weeks you may still hate everything.

What do you like right now?  What flavors do you crave - if any?

I couldn't get in my protein each day if it wasn't for the Isopure RTD in Alpine Punch.  I don't do sweet so I can't live on shakes.

I am glad to see these smaller bottles and in plastic, to boot!  I get tired of sipping out of the same bottle all day long.

Thanks for the heads up on the new product.

I weighed 313 pounds on December 1, 2008 the day of my RNY surgery and have lost 81%

Oh the grape frost sounds down right tempting to me. I am hooked on the WalMart grape drink and recently my hubby started drinking it too. We can't keep it in the house. Of course there is no protein in that. This is a product I may explore...it might take a century for it to be found around here though. Doris

This is soooo exciting for me! Thank you for the info.  I drink a bottle a day of the large glass bottles and they are so inconvenient!  I will be on the look out for this product.

Hmmm I'm suspicious but since I generally like the things you review I'll give it a go next time I'm in the US.  By any chance do you know what kind of protein (isolate, concentrate or a blend of the two) it's made with?
