I was wondering if anyone had a plm with inner thight discoloration?  Not necessarily from having surgery but more from just being overweight.  I've heard of skin bleach and creams but I was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions/advice/help? thanks!!!

I do - and skin tags too - yuck!  Thank God I'm already married and I don't have to worry about what that stuff looks like!

I wonder if it will go away after weight loss?  Anyone know?

oh your girls just cooled me off after venting about the way people treat you.  Skin tags do not go away.  sorry girls.  As far as thighs I don't know.  Sorry,

Hi!  I have the skin discoloration.  If what you are talking about is a darker skin down there?  I have it under my arms and around my middle also.  It is normally associated with some kind of blood sugar(pancreas) issue.  It is called Acanthosis (sp?).  They have some creams that don't really do much.  I have had this since I was 12 and struggling with insulin resistance (but they didn't know what it was back then).  My Dad has it also.  They claim that it gets better with weight loss but I thnk that kind of depends on the person.  I have never had much of a difference no matter what my weight is....but sometimes if I get it around my neck or what not I can really scrub it with a loofah and it gets some of those skin cells off.  My docs told me that it was just a thickening of the skin there which makes it dark.

I think it might just be something you have to live with.....I just asked my dermatologist last month if they had come up with anything new that helps and she said no.  She said that the weight loss might help and it may not.

* As for skin tags you can have them removed.  It is no big deal.  They give you a little shot and cut them right off with scissors.  I have had about 10 of them removed over the years.  Most of the time they don't grow back.

Good luck ladies!

my PCP actually told me this a few years ago, the back of my neck was bad but since weight loss surgery it is better, the other posters are correct it is called acanthosis nigricans.

I wonder whether this inner thigh discoloration an example of acanthosis nigricans, which would be expected to remit after WLS, improved insulin sensitivity and subsequent weight loss?  Or something unique, which might not?

I don't have skin tags but I do have inner thigh discoloration.  Mine is from my thighs rubbing together for years.  I am using a bleaching cream on them and I think it is working.  Haven't been using it long enough to offer guarantees.  Hope this is helpful.

Olive oil and lemon juice is suppose to help with that.

I read in prevention someone asked about discoloration in their pubic area and they (prevention) responded back and said it was due to rubbing or friction just like the upper thighs of someone who is overweight.  They stated to mix a little lemon juice with a little olive oil put it on at night until the color goes away.

Haven't tried it so can't tell you if it works but it is a cheap option to try first.

RUBBING ALCOHOL...

Well I haven't used it on the thigh area but I have the discoloration on my neck (doctor called it Terra Firme Forme aka "Dirty Dermatosis") and I looked it up and the discoloration can be removed from scrubbing it with rubbing alcohol. Soaps, loofahs, scrubs never worked so I tried the rubbing alcohol and it really worked, my neck is clean (though the skin tags are still there). It never came back. However, I haven't tried it on the thigh area because I kind of forgot about it and I have discoloration in my armpits too so I'm going to try it in those areas now too hehe.

Let me know if it works :-)
