5 days post op and fever of 99.7 What should I do?
Hi Jenny I know my Dr said anything over 101 call him right away...I would keep a eye if your worried do you have Pain or anything? take some tylenol But if you have any major pain call your Dr,,my body temp goes from 97 to 99 ..temps sometimes are like our blood pressure if you have some pain from surgery may make your temp rise a wee bit..because Blood pressure rises with Pain..
Why do some people experience diarrhea after this surgery?
Diarrhea can occur immediately after surgery but usually subsides in the first week. Any time the bowel is touched, third spacing can occur. Third spacing means tha****er will fill the bowel space, and may pass as loose stool. Sometimes, this extra water may be reabsorbed without causing diarrhea. Chronic diarrhea that does not get better is not a common side effect of this procedure. Examine what you are eating (see dumping, as listed above.) Fruit juices, potatoes, high sugar and high starch foods will provoke diarrhea. Read your labels! If the diarrhea persists, and you have eliminated any offending foods, call your surgeon.
As a pharmacist, I can tell you that a fever is defined as 101 or greater or 2 degrees greater than your baseline. For someone like me who runs closer to 98.0 and not 98.6, I would be more worried if my temp was 99.7, just because that is so close to 2 degrees over my baseline. Also, know that you may experience an increase in temp after any surgery. It is just a normal reaction of your body. However, I agree go ahead and call your doctor. They probably would want to be made aware of anything different from your baseline. Take care.
