I had the vertical sleeve procedure done in Tijuana Mexico in Jun 08 and have had zero problems post op. I had a great surgeon and the hospital was top notch as well. I had surgery on Friday, was out of the hospital and to the hotel on Sunday and was well enough to come home on Monday. I took no pain meds after I left the hospital and I was so glad he did not make me stay longer than I needed to though I could have stayed if I wanted.
My surgeon does a total of 4 leak tests, 2 during the surgery and 2 the next day.
I never felt unsafe or in any danger being in Mexico though you will probably see many folks post that you are taking your life in your hands if you go to Tijuana. That was certainly not my experience, nor the experience of those of us who have actually "been there, done that".
I have lost over 120 lbs since June and was able to drink and eat with no problems pretty much from day one.

Please feel free to PM me if you have further questions.

Whatever you do is it truthful, necessary and kind?

I had surgery with Dr. Armando Joya in Puerto Vallarta Mexico in December. It was a wonderful experience, with no regrets.

Good luck!

I had lapband surgery in Tijuana, Mexico on 4/13/09.  My insurance does not cover any WLS surgery.  It cost me $7,000 dollars, plus my airfare for me and my husband from Seattle to San Diego.  I arrived on Monday at 0945, I was picked up at the airport and transported to the hospital, I had all of my pre op test, bloodwork, ekg, chest x-ray, etc.  Went into surgery at 2:30, and was in my private room by 4:30.  My husband stayed in my room with me, everything was wonderful, everyone was very attentive.  My surgery team visited me several times during my stay, I stayed on Tuesday in the hospital to visit with nutritionist, and psychologist, they also did xrays to show that the band was working. (all test, xrays came home with me).  I was discharged on Wednesday at 9:00am and tranported back to the airport.  I am now almost one week out, I went back to work on Thursday, (desk job) and I am doing really well.  I cannot express what it means to me that I was able to find an affordable and safe option for my surgery. Dr Lopez Corvala and his team at Hospital Angeles were awesome.  If you want any information feel free to contact me.

Hi there! Congrats on your surgery and I'm really happy you are doing well.  How was it to fly so soon after your surgery?  Was it painful?

Thanks!

My flight was 2 hrs and 50min, it was not painful , it was a little uncomfortable (that's flying), however, I sat near the window, reclined my seat and mainly slept on the flight home.  My 2 hour car ride home after the flight was more uncomfortable because we had driven our truck.  Other then that, I am one week out today and I feel great.

Good luck if you want more info, I would be glad to assist.

I went to tj mexico to Dr. Kuri.  It was a great experience.  My daughter went the year before I did, and loved it also.  However , are they advising not to travel to Mexico now?

I went to Tijuana Mx  to Dr Liza Pompa at The Bariatric Group last yr in April. As a matter of fact  April 7th was my 1yr anniversary.  From the moment of my arrival I couldnt have asked for better service.  From the bus driver to the nurses they all were just wonderful. Dr Pompa was really nice. I had RNY surgery. I have lost all the weight I wanted and then some. My problem now is I dont know how to quit losing. I have lost 15pds that I didnt want to lose.  My son also went last June to Dr Pompa and had Lapband. He has said that he really liked her too. My sister is scheduled to have RNY on May 15th by Dr Pompa. So I guess maybe that will give you some idea about having surgery in MX. I sure would have not sent my son, or sister if I didnt like the treatment that I received.
