libbys vienna sausages
Has anyone eaten these post-op? If so, how long post op did you have to be before you could eat any? I am really craving one or two little links but I am kinda scared of the outcome (as I am with any food I try post op lol). BTW the blue can is a mix of beef, chicken, and pork and the red one is all chicken (the one I usually eat). Any answers would be greatly appreciated.
Here are the facts.

I agree with the first responder - too much fat and not enough protein in vienna sausages. But if you really have a craving for it try just one bite and see if you even like them anymore. I found that high fat foods didn't even taste good to me anymore. My experience with a piece of KFC (leg) was bad, bad, bad - the fat content made me sick for 5 or 6 hours when I finally (mercifully) vomited. Unfortunately I didn't notice a problem until after I'd eaten the whole leg.
I don't think you're really gonna want the vienna sausages as much as you think. Try those Louis Rich turkey sausage links or something else with a lot of flavor and less fat - I think those are great and they're high in protein.
Good luck!
Hugs,
Cindy

Like the snow white poster, I also had the lite vienna sausages during my puree phase. I also had SPAM Lite during that time too.
BTW, the SPAM lite was listed as an ideal food on my Johns Hopkins Bariatric Center binder, so if Johns Hopkins says canned meat is not evil, hmmmm... I'll eat it any time.
I'd just make sure to stick to the Light versions, and have just a couple, to see how you digest it.

These were one of the first 'solid' foods I ate, post-op. No, they're not really 'good' for you, but where you're at, nothing's going to be realy 'bad'---'cause you can't eat enough of it to hurt you. For the first couple of months after the RNY, anything you can keep down is GOOD---and these do have protein. Lots of fat, but you're malabsorbing some of it---1 year post-op RNYers absorb about 62% of fat, compared to the 92% 'normal' people absorb.
