Hi, I had my psych evaluation a few weeks ago.  She asked my dieting history, what kind of issues with food I have (like emotional eating).

I was completely honest.  Yes, I'm an emotional eater, but I'm aware of it.  We discussed this, and she gave me some worksheets and recommended some books; but I passed the evaluation.

Personally, I would not lie.  Here is how I think about it: YOU want to succeed, and THEY want you to succeed.  It's best to address any issues you have with food now, rather then unsuccessfully fight them when you have surgery JMHO.

Also, if they give you the MMPI, do not lie.  They have scales built into them, and they can tell if you are faking (good or bad) and will hurt your evaluation.

Mine just asked if I knew what to expect from the wls surgery, was I looking to be skinny, healthy etc... of course mine was for health and skinny would be nice. But I told her what she wanted to hear. Asked about my eating patterns and if I knew how important it was going to be to change them and how I should have someone to talk with when things are stressing me out. But it was actually a nice appt. since I brought up how depressed I was after my mom and dad passed away......only had to go once. Just be honest and talk about whatever you feel like.

The doctor who gave me a psych eval simply wanted to know about my mild depression, and whether I knew that wls wouldn't solve all my problems, and that it's not the easy way out, etc.  She was satisfied with all my answers, and advised me that the depression medication I was on at the time wouldn't be very absorbable after surgery.  One tip, though:  I did behave a little more friendly to her than I normally would treat someone I just met, and she ate it up.

I worry about being disqualified because of all the medications I take. I take six different psychiatric drugs every day and have been seen by therapists psychiatrists for 20 years.

My psychiatrist now was all for the idea of the surgery saying it would improve my quality of life. She also said she would fill out any forms I may need.

Has anyone had anything similar and still passed?
