Restruants Honoring Gastric Bypass Cards?
one poster asked why should we get a discount? if you think that way then you must wonder
why should kids get one and why do senior citizens get one???
thats crazy---we get a discount because we eat dang 3 or 4 oz of food and that is less than the average weight person even eats and probably less than most kids or seniors
not too much of ask to get a discount every once in awhile
i mean heck, how much do we really eat out anyway......

I don't think WLS patients deserve a discount, because the food is the least expensive part of running a restaurant. How much you eat really doesn't affect how much the restaurant has to pay the wait staff, the kitchen help, the bus boy, the cashier, the utility company---you get the idea. It costs them just as much to wash your plate if you ate two bites or two pounds.
And as you say, how much do we really eat out anyway? For me, going out is *usually* more about the companionship than the food. I figure the pleasure of spending time with my friends is worth paying full price---and I enjoy the leftovers, too. (*grin*)
If anyone is curious...I got mine even though my surgery is on the 13th..and this is what it states....
"The bearer of this card has has a surgical procedure that restricts food volume to approximately 1/2 cup of food at each meal. Please consider allowing this person to order from your senior or children's menu. We thank you for your cooperation."

I don't have my card yet, but Red Lobster will let you order off of the lunch menu when it's dinner time, and they will also let you order off of the children's menu if you explain that you are a bariatric patient. They are real good about it. Bob Evans is usually really good about letting you order off of the children's menu, but be warned, some stores vary in policy so I will only patronize the ones that cater to bariatric patients. We've even asked about being allowed to "share" since I eat so little, and many establishments frown on that one, so we just get up and leave.
There are many other places out there that are more than wiling to accommodate bariatric patients. There are just too many of us now for establishments not to recognized the need for special pricing for us folks.

The acceptance of "those cards" is based upon the management of the restuarant, not any rule set by the restuarant. I tried to use one of those cards a few weeks after my RNY. I had one place honor it, and yet another one of the same restuarants refused to honor it. Restuarants think your trying to get away with only order a kids meal, and they doubt whether the card is truly accurate. Share a meal, or take leftovers home. Be careful when dining out though. Restuarants do not always prepare meals as requested, and you might end up dumping in their powder room. DAVE
