Pre-Op Liquid Diet Leg Cramps

I am two days into my 2 week pre-op liquid diet and my leg and foot muscles feel like they are on the verge of major cramps.  I am doing everything as I was instructed.  Can or should I take some potassium?  Will potassium mess up my metabolism or cause other problems?

Thanks for any input you can give me.

Potassium will not hurt you....as a matter of fact mine was low after surgery, and I had to take it in liquid form for several weeks after surgery..it was NASTY!

Dehydration causes cramps as well...sounds crazy since you are on a liquid diet, right?  lol  I had the same problem pre and post-op and my surgeon said that salt and potassium, as well as increasing your water/Crystal Lite intake, can help with cramping.  Maybe try to drink some more broth for the sodium.  Potassium will not hurt you, but it can cause constipation so be sure to bulk up on the fiber!

Good luck & keep your eye on the prize, it will get better! :)
