Wendys Chili...

I have seen numerous postings of people consuming Wendys Chili some even in the very early stages. Well the nutritional value of this item is a big NO NO.  I know this item is not in my food guide that the NUT gave me prior to surger, not that I have tried to eat Wendys Chili.

A Wendys Chili (s) has 21 grams of carb and 5 grams of sugar 6 grams of fat. 200 calories.

Here is a listing of the items within the CHILI- Ground Beef being #1
Small Chili
Ground Beef, Chili Base (tomatoes, salt, citric acid, calcium chloride), Chili Seasoning (sugar, salt, modified corn starch, chili pepper, onion powder, spices, dextrose, garlic powder, citric acid, disodium inosinate & guanylate, xanthan gum, autolyzed yeast extract, soybean oil, caramel color, extractives of paprika, malic acid, red 40, natural and artificial flavor, silicon dioxide [anticaking agent]), Kidney Beans (kidney beans, water, sugar, corn syrup, salt, natural flavorings, onion powder, calcium chloride, disodium EDTA [to protect taste]), Chili Beans (beans, water, sugar, corn syrup, salt, natural flavorings, onion powder, calcium chloride), Vegetable Mix (onions, celery, green peppers).

If you are in the blended stages, there is no justifiable reason for you to be eating Wendys Chili, just because it can be blended does not mean it is ideal to eat.  This is a food item to resume to eat when you have reached 75% weight loss, when you are in the maintence stage.

Let's try not to get off track so early in this journey. I made the mistake of eating a baked potato, and I know now that was wrong and I will never do it again. Sometimes it takes a big wake up call to get back on track.

You didn't mention the 17 g of protein, which is why it is so popular at this stage, when denser proteins are not digestible.

This food was and is a great food for me. I ate this food at 5 days out and am still ahead of schedule for weight loss. At 10 weeks post op I am over 40% EWL :)

Congratulations on your success! I had the RNY surgery and I know it is not on my meal guide. Perhaps your surgery has different food guidelines.

Keep up the good work!

I think the 21 grams of carbs overshadow the protein.  Since we are not supposed to consume large amounts of carbs, then when you add the fat and sugars. It is a complete No NO

In reviewing your link you did not enter a complete and detailed recipe.  The site is unable to appropriately determine protein quality.  When I entered my clone recipe some time ago it was able to give me much better information.

Actually, right now my Dr. just says to stay under 14g sugar and 9g fat. So actually it's not that bad. While I don't suggest going out to get it just because, if your out running around and have missed a meal it's one of the things you can easily pick up. As for a baked potatoe, I'm not supposed to have starchy stuff until I'm told it's okay. So no potatoes for me.

ETA: My guideline also has chili for a soft food. I picked up the canned turkey chili from the store as recommended and it has 34g carbs.

The carbs in Wendy's chili are good carbs.  We do not want to consume sugars or the white stuff!  I only am able to eat about 1/4 of a small anyway.  I have been losing weight with no problem and I eat Wendy's chili at least once a week maybe more.

Wendy's Chili has been and still is a "go to" food for me. There is a huge difference in the carbs from veggies and dry beans and the carbs from bread, pasta, fries etc. I make chili at home on a regular basis and if you compare the ingredients/nut value, I bet they are real close. Each surgeon and nut have their own guidelines, I will continue to follow the ones given by my surgeon and his say Wendy's Chili is ok. Good luck in your journey.

If you're on the road, in a hurry, or just too dern tired to cook dinner, a little cup of this is not a bad thing.  The majority of my meals have a lot less carbs, but every now and then it's not the end of the world to have a little Wendy's chili.  The one bad thing I regret about it is when it's served watery.  Eating soup or watery things makes the food go right through our pouch and it doesn't keep us full.  It's the same reason we're not supposed to drink while we're eating, so my surgeon and nut say "no soups" and "no protein drinks" for that reason.  If I do get the chili, which is rare (only twice since my surgery 9 months ago), I strain out the chunks with my spoon and leave the watery stuff behind.

It's a good thing to be diligent, but as long as you keep the portion small and indulge in something like this rarely, it's not such a bad thing.  I don't want to feel shackled and chained by my new life and eating plan.  I'm in control and I think I've done pretty well, if I do say so myself!!!
