I had my surgery August 14, 2009. Ever since I had the surgery all I have is messed up dreams. Like one night I had a dream I was in a nice red slimming shiny dress to go to a big party and I was bending over to buckle my high heel and I stood up to look in the mirror and I had this black wrinkled black pant suit on and I kept saying what happened to my beautiful dress! Last night I had a dream I was eating pizza and drinking soda and I kept thinking I shouldnt be drinking soda Im gonna blow my pouch but yet Im gorging on pizza before someone walked in the door to catch me, or I had a dream one other night I swallowed gum and started crying in my sleep and the list goes on and on. I havent drank soda in over 9 months and I dont chew gum because of dental work so its not like Im craving this stuff or really miss it but  Im wondering does anyone else have these off the wall dreams about things like this, I mean is it normal?

Hi Clad, with every surgery I've had, I would have *weird* dreams for several weeks afterward.  It's the anesthesia.

Hi,
I had surgery last Monday and I was just thinking about all the weird dreams I have been having. Most of them have been about me eating something I am not supposed to and then waiting for a horrible pain to take place. I hope its the anesthesia, but just know you arent alone! :)

 I'm with you.
I'm almost two weeks out and I've been having weird dreams too. Not just weird, but vivid, too. Creepy even. Last night I dreamt that I was kidnapped by some kidnapping ring and that they kept cutting everyone hair off and selling it. Then they got busted; the kidnappers were like, carnival workers or something. Very troubling.

Also, for some reason odors (my husband was cooking while I was napping in the living room) filter into dreams now. Dreamt I was eating chunky beef stew the other day.

Maybe it's all the drugs I'm taking...

I am 6 1/2 weeks out and I still have weird dreams. No, you are not alone. I think it is the anesthesia and the pain meds. I had an infected abcess and have to take pain meds still so I think that has something to do with mine.

Best of luck and best wishes for a speedy recovery!!!

I had some really weird dreams the first 2 months or so.   The only one I vividly remember occurred while I was still on liquids.   I dreamed that I found a whole box of Hershey's chocolate bars stashed in the cabinet and had wolfed down all 6 bars, forgetting that I had surgery.   Luckily, it was only a dream (or nightmare). :)

At our 3 week post-op group session, the psych running the meeting asked if any of us had been experiencing weird dreams since surgery. She said it was fairly common with all the changes we've been through.
