I think they say anything from 25 - 80 is normal.  But I have read that you really want it to be at least 50, that anything under that is really too low.

depends on the lab, but 30 to 100 is normal.

I've read articles (that may have been published by the Vitamin D council) that a D range over 80 can possibly reduce risk of cancer for women. So I am shooting for 80 to 100

I've never seen anything that indicates the ranges would be different for men vs. women

Several studies easily found on Google, indicate that vitamin D has many benefits, if levels are 70, 80 or more. RNY post ops have to take supplements to get higher levels. Nomral D, usually a D2, is not absorbed nearly as well as a dry D3. I get 5000 IU dry D3 from vitalady.com .  Current data on D also suggests that 12 year old children should take 1000 IU and normal adults should take 2000 IU of a D3.  DAVE

I don't now what my lab work says but I was told my doc wants me to take 10,000 iu per day, 5 days a week for 15 weeks. I haven't gotten it yet because I have not made a special trip to the GNC store. I couldn't find it at HEB or Walmart.

When you get some, make sure you get D3, not D2.  D2 is not well absorbed.

Saw your reply & wanted to let you know I found Vit D3 at CVS Pharmacy.  PS....I noticed we have the same surgeon and I got David to make me a copy of my labs when I went in for my follow up.  I'm going to ask for the lab to send me a copy next go round.  I've heard it's a good idea to keep a copy for yourself so you can track any changes (up or down), plus they can be helpful to your PCP for any other health issues that may arise.
