That's a good idea. I should ask Pam about that. I will check at CVS then. Were ther liquid, chewble ?

No, they were tablets.  About the size of a regular Bayer aspirin.  They dissolve really quickly though I noticed.  As soon as I put liquid in my mouth, they begin breaking down.  There is a liquid form by Wellesse available online only at CVS but Walgreens carries it also.

It's a very good idea to keep a copy of your labs and compare them.  I have a spreadsheet I use to keep track of them.  That way I can easily see if something is starting to drop.  Because the doctor will just say it's fine until it gets below the normal range.  But like, the last time I had labs done, my doc said everything was fine, but I noticed thatmy iron had dropped a lot.  It's still in the normal range, but it dropped a lot.  So I am starting an iron supplement.

I agree.  We have to be proactive in our own healthcare.  I just had my first labs a short while back and was slightly low on Vit D and my Vit A was below normal.  My NUT prescribed additional supplementation for those and we will see how my labs look at the January follow up.  From everything I've read here, probably some of your advice as well as Andrea U. and Pam T.'s, it really looks like our surgeons are great at performing surgery but the long term follow up for watching out for downward trending toward deficiencies seems to be handed off to NUT's, PCP's or not at all.  I consider this just another vote for the 'it-ain't-the-easy-way-out' weight loss program.  I am MUCH more conscious of my health, food, etc. now than I ever was pre-op.

I think you are exactly right.  We hire a surgeon because they are a great surgeon, very skilled in the OR.  But that does not mean they know much at all about nutrition.  And unfortunately, our PCP may not know much more about nutrition, either, especially when it comes to nutrition after WLS and malabsorption and all the stuff.  Hopefully we have a Nut that knows their stuff, but not all of them do, either.  We have to do our own homework and stay on top of things ourselves.

Not only will they not tell you if your numbers are dropping, as long as they are still consider within the normal range, some of these "normal" ranges are really too low.  My lab reports says anything over 25 is normal for vitamin D.  That is way too low!  B12 is the same way.  Your B12 could be 300 and they will tell you it's normal.  But it's reallly dangerously low.

Normal is between 30 and 100 but RNY people want it to be atleast 60 preferably atleast 80.  I recently increased my vitamin D3 to 50,000 units 2 times per week and mine is 97.  Pretty good, huh!

They are not different for age groups.

The new normal values are 50-100.  It used to be 30 and above.  Most WLS folks shoot for 80-100.

I just had my two-year follow up appt the other day. My Vit D level was at 30. Doc told me that over 35 is acceptable and recommended I start taking 2,000 IU daily for three months and have another blood test then.

Hopefully this will get it up there!

2k a day isn't going to cut it.  Honest.

The vitamin D council is now showing that normies need 2k a day to maintain their numbers.. 2k for us will LOSE.

For you to go up, you're really going to need to up it massively.  I had to go 50k per day...

listen to Andrea. I took 10,000 per day for six months and it went from 42 to 65. 2,000 per day is not enough.
