got sick today /SF carnation instant breakfast
Michelle,
not so...
- Milk has natural sugar in it - lactose. Some of us can have it - some will dump on it . And if we dum*****t may depend on qty of lactose and what is it in.
- Then there is fructose - another natural sugar - mostly in fruits and veggies. again some can tolerate that better than others.
- Then there are sugar alcohols - again - they are natural - derived from woods and veggie s- but may cause abdominal distress - and may cause dumping for some of us.
-Then there is the table sugar; sucrose - some of us may have a problem with that.
Overall - it may be one of the sugars or combination of them that may makes us dump.
As for carbs - simple carbs may affect some of us like sugar does - since the can turn into sugar in our body. even complex carbs - may create a problem for some of us. i.e. i can not have a meal that does not have proteins or fat in it. Even complex carbs - if eaten by itself - may make me sick. (I developed reactive hypoglycemia - delayed dumping post op RNY)

Could be lactose intolerance, because not only does the milk have lactose in it, CIB is made from milk, so it has more lactose.
Could be sugar. Sugar free CIB isn't really sugar free, it's no sugar added, which is not the same thing. I think it has 8 grams of sugar in it. Plus there is sugar in milk. So if you put the CIB in one cup of milk, you got about 20 grams of sugar.

Just had to put in another vote for soy slender... I love the chocolate and cappuccino flavors and put love adding just 2 oz to my shakes ..of coure the other 1.5 cups of fluid are cold decaf :) lol
On a side note, SF Carnation is probably not the best choice especailly if you're doing it to get protein. (Mayber you're just trying to finish up the stuff you were drinking pre-op)
For me personally, I wouldn't waste 12 carbs to get only 5g protein --- there are tons of good proteins with 25-30g protein and 0-3g carbs. There are 7g sugars too which is cutting it close to ump level for me (0g) so i wouldn't risk that either... its not even whey protein isolate so I would lump this drink into the useless category -- but you may have other reasons for drinking it.

this combination have so much sugar - that i would have been sick for a week. Just became it is no sugar added - it does not men it is SF - i.e. skim milk has 12 gr of sugar. It is natural sugar - but it is still sugar - some of us will dump on that, i know i do - just the skim milk. Then add the Sf carnation breakfast - more natural sugars + the carbs in cream of wheat - major dump for me. Looks like for you too.

The milk could make you ill. Drinking and eating at the same time could make you ill. It sounds more like lactose intollerance than dumping, but I would probably have the same symptoms if I drank and ate together. Also, you might try adding some protien powder to the cream of wheat. A higher protien to carb ratio may help.
