I'm a month out and dragging butt, big time. I am soooo tired. Yes, I take vitamins and get my protein in (50-100 gr)
I really miss my coffee. Especially now, I could really use a pick me up. Other than it being a diuretic...........
Why Cant We Have It?? Please say I can have it :)

Believe it or not it can keep you from losing. I have said this many times - I cut out caffeine and carbonated drinks and lost about ten pounds in less than two weeks. It makes a difference. Try exercising. I actually get energy from exercise and feel so much better afterwards. Simply walking makes me feel good! Sometimes people will say its ok to treat yourself from time to time but for me Im scared that will lead me back down the road that got me to 390 pounds.
I think I started with caffeine (coffee) shortly after surgery, maybe 1.5 months. I took a couple sips at first and waited awhile to see how I would handle it....I did fine - BUT that's not to say that YOU won't have problems....IF you are brave enough try a few sips and see how it goes. Now, 8 months later, I am a complete coffee junkie...but I don't spend it at the coffee shop...I make my own with the ground starbucks espresso blend from the store (a tad bit expensive, but MUCH cheaper than going every day to starbucks) and I get the DaVinci SF vanilla syrup and fat free milk...absolutely WONDERFUL!!!
Of course, all surgeons vary on coffee...check with yours. <---disclaimer!!!!!
Good Luck!!

I tried 1/2 coffee and 1/2 decafe and then switch to regular coffee. I know it is a diuretic but I felt I needed it... I was about 4 weeks post op before I tried 1/2 and 1/2. Everyone is different, every surgeons protocol is different. Call the Nutritionist at the office and they perhaps can give you direction...

Caffeine is fine. 1 of 2 cups of coffee are not going to cause you any problems. It isn't enough caffeine to have a diuretic effect. Don't count is a part of your fluids and if you feel better, drink an extra glass of water. Have your coffee...I started mine 4 days after surgery. Now, if you start loading it down with all kinds of flavored creamers, that could give you issues. (Flavored creamers have sugar alcohols, which could possibly cause you to dump.

ITS VERY NORMAL TO BE EXHAUSTED ONE MONTH POST. REMEMBER THE BIG CHANGES YOUR BODY IS HAVING TO ADAPT TO. CAFFEINE WON'T HELP YOU FEEL ANY BETTER, IN FACT IT MAY DO JUST THE OPPOSITE. GO FOR A WALK!! CAFFEINE IS A PERSONAL CHOICE. IT DEPLEATS YOUR CALCIUM. I DRINK SMALL AMOUNTS AS A SPECIAL TREAT ON OCCASSION AND TRY TO CHOICE DECAF, THAN I TAKE AN EXTRA CALCIUM SUPPLEMENT. I HAVE GIVEN UP DIET SODA COMPLETELY. I TOLD MY DR AT PRE-OP APPT THAT I COULDN'T GIVE UP MY DIET COKE FIX IN THE AFTERNOON. HE TOLD ME I WOULDN'T WANT IT ALL AND I THOUGHT "YEA RIGHT HE DOESN'T KNOW ME", GUESS WHAT I CAN'T DRINK IT AT ALL, IT TASTES HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I MAY HAVE A COUPLE SIPS OF CLUB SODA WHEN I NEED TO BULCH!! LOL
ANYWAY, I THINK OF WLS SURGERY AS A TOOL TO HELP ME GET HEALTHY, SO WHY START GOING BACK TO YOUR OLD HABITS??
