How Do I Quit Smoking??

It's all in your head. The physical addiction is a lot easier to kick than the psychological addiction. You have to WANT with all your heart... I mean REALLY WANT to quit smoking.
If you aren't passionate about whatever you decide to do, you won't do it. You can try all the little tricks you hear but the most important factor is going to be your own willpower.
So how badly do you want to quit smoking?
When I got pregnant with my first child, I quit in three days. The first day I smoked 3 cigarettes, the next day 2, then the next day 1. I started back a few years later but quit before surgery. This time I know I'm never going back to smoking again. When I used to drink, I'd get a craving for one. Finally I actually smoked one and felt like I was going to puke.
My mom is 43 years old and is being treated for heart disease. She's been smoking for about 23 years. Two of my grandparents died in their early sixties... guess what.... they'd both smoked their entire adult lives. Go figure. My FIL is in his early sixties and quit smoking in his twenties.... him and my DH do all kinds of crazy stuff like sky dive, run marathons, bike across mountains, etc.... same age as my dead grandparents. Sad... all because of cigarettes.
Do your future children and grandchildren a favor... quit.

My husband smoked 3 to 4 packs a day and loved his cigarettes. When he quit, he was not committed but thought it was time to try so he went to a smoking cessation clinic and used both the patch and Zyban. Even without the full-on commitment, he was able to quit with relative ease.
I also did Zyban and the patch and not only was able to quit, but also found it relatively easy. I had quit in the past, once for up to five years; however, I would occasionally still crave a cigarette in certain social situations or when under stress, plus they always smelled good to me.
The difference with the patch and Zyban is that neither my husband or I ever have any cravings. In fact, the thought of putting a cigarette in my mouth is absolutely nauseating. I can't stand the smell of cigarettes and absolutely hate being around cigarettes in any form.
As for chewing the gum, I chew a small piece of sugar-free gum several times a day.
Best of luck to you. You CAN do this!!!
