Fresh Fruit and Veggie Questions
Because these things are raw and take alot for your tummy to digest, give yourself time to heal before trying them. You don't want to get anything stuck, or irritate your pouch while its still trying to heal.
We are all different and tolerate foods differently. I was able to ea****ermelon at 3 weeks post op with no problems. Now I'm also able to tolerate bananas. My next treat will be grapes and canteloupe. Haven't tried salad yet.
Just take your time with whatever you introduce. You don't want to make yourself sick.

Whether or not it is typical, this is your medical professional'x advice so you should follow it.
Fresh produce can be hard for a new pouch to digest. It's far more fibrous than you might imagine. Many of us long for fresh produce far more than anything else we've forfeited for a while after surgery. From what I've heard, about 3 months is a fairly common interval. When you do get to have them, look up their glycemic load (lots of websites out there) and choose low glycemic produce to reduce the risk of dumping (and to some extent, calories). Just also read up on what the glycemic level really means. For example, while melons usually have a relatively high glycemic level in a normal serving size, chances are you'll be eating far less and so a reduced load on your blood sugar.
Sty strong, Stacy... you'll survive until it's time!

Hi.. I am 7 weeks out. I got cleared last week to try what I felt I could tolerate. For some reason, a salad scared me to death. I gave in though and believe it or not it is the one thing I can tolerate the best. I used my kitchen knife to cut up the lettuce really fine and I dice the tomatoes small. I top with a little salad dressing. No problems as of yet with salad. I pray the same for you..
