Signs of vitamin deficiency?

So I have an odd complaint....for about the past week I have had intense itching on my legs. 99% of the time at night. It's to the point now where I'm getting woken up about it in the middle of the night. I have scratched so hard I have drawn blood. I do not have a rash or anything and it's only my legs that itch. Odd. I haven't changed laundry detergents, soaps or anything like that. I even tried buying the All Free and Clear detergent to see if that would help. I have slathered myself in hydrocortisone cream with no relief. I've taken Benedryl. NO RELIEF! Someone said this could be a sign of vitamin deficiencies. Any input?

Hi Alli,

I had a very similar experience but it was all over my body.
The itching seemed to come from under my skin.

Turns out, I was taking too many b-12 sublinguals.  Once I stoped. the itching stoped.

try that

Hm, the B12 thing is interesting...  is there any possibility it could be Restless Leg Syndrome??

I am having the same issues mostly at night as well.  My legs are itching like nobodys business and I like you can scratch so hard I draw blood.  I have been taking B12 subliguals not over the dose it says I can but I have been taking them...wonder if I should stop???

No, talk to your surgeon before discontinuing meds. The poster that had issues with B-12 was taking TOO many of them. You may just need to go to a different form of B-12. I take the nasal spray.

Wow, I've been itching a lot lately, too.  I think I just have dry skin, though.  But I just did some googling, and apparently itching can be a symptoms to vitamin D deficiency and biotin deficiency.  And I am low on vitamin D.  Although it's actually gone up some according to my last labs, and the itching is new, so I don't think that's it.

But anyway, had your vitamin D checked lately?  And is there even a blood test to check for biotin deficiency?  I don't think that is one of the things that routinely gets checked.  What multivitamin are you taking?  Some, like Centrum, are pretty low on biotin.

Kind of off topic but I find it amazing that I'm taking 56,000% of the RDA for B12.  I'm guessing it's one of the vitamins that we can't "overdose" on?
