Wouldn't be the first time I pissed off someone....

Do normally skinny people ask for discounts because they can't eat as much? no
Did I ask for a discount when I had gall bladder issues and couldn't eat certain things? no
Do I get a discount when I order nachos, but tell them to hold the tomatoes, onions, lettuce and guacamole? no lol

It's part of my job, comes naturally...besides, I live in my own happy little world LOL

But seriously, I understand legit concerns and complaints.  Complain if the food or service is bad, but what's the point of arguing over a few dollars just because someone had surgery?

Just don't get it...

You made the restaurant change their policies and procedures to accommodate you..I could see if they didn't have wheelchair access or handrails in the bathroom...but not make a special size plate because you had weight loss surgery.  Plus, a bunch of random waitress, waiters, busboys, cooks, hostess...the list goes on...they all know that you had to have weight loss surgery..I don't want people to know all my business just to get $1.50 off my meal

but that is just me

I agree.  Great post.  Nothing wrong with using a card.  My doctor's office even gives a list of restaurants they have spoken to who have agreed to honor the card.  Paying less for smaller portions is not criminal, like so many of you are insinuating.  Recently I asked for a smaller portion at a restaurant (I did not use my card nor did I divulge my bariatric surgery).  The waitress let me get a meal from the "Senior" menu.  I saved a buck and got a smaller meal.  I don't believe the restaurant will go bankrupt over losing my dollar.

There are a lot of cranky people on this forum.  Relax, people!!

You are right, there's nothing wrong with using the card.  The problem is when people become upset, argue with the restaurant staff, or bad mouth a restaurant because they don't accept the card.  After all, anyone could download one of those cards and use it.

I don't think anyone insinuated that paying less for a smaller portion was criminal either.  In fact, I'm all for it. I think we should lobby restaurants and  healthier choices and smaller portions. In fact, most restaurants do the opposite, they brag up their large portions.  Before surgery, none of us had a problem with eating more.

I personally would not divulge me medical history, unless I had an allergy. And even then, there are no guarantees that they'll get it correct.

I haven't been around long, but long enough to see this topic brought up numerous times, and I see WWIII every time.

But there are a TON of amoral people here that ate enough for three people at a buffet pre op and now that they eat enough for one person they want  a discount for such.

Sounds right up your alley!

The only time i ever use mine is when I'm at Perkins - they let you order off the senior menu which has some things that are better for us.  Usually I just off the regular menu and take home the rest -- most places end up giving me 2-3 meals for the price of one which is great.

There is never anything on the childrens menu worth ordering..its usually fried chicken fingers, pizza, mac and cheese...yuck :p

You know, sometimes I will explain to the waiter/waitress I had stomach surgery and therefore cannot eat much, and may I order off the senior citizen menu, even though I am in my 40's.  I have often found healthy and smaller portions there.  I have never had any problems with it at all.

I think most restaurants would rather accomodate your needs and get your business than have an unhappy customer who doesn't come back and gives them "bad press".

I am glad to learn about the ideas everyone has listed here.  I hadn't really thought about the appetizer menu much.

Thanks,

Melora
