Has anyone used Anthem Healthkeepers HMO for surgery?

Hi, all! I just called my insurance company and they said they do not cover bariatric surgery of any kind. I could swear I had read about other people who use them and some doctors that accept them. Am I asking the wrong question?

I'm 36 years old, my BMI is 39.9 and I have had high blood pressure for 3 years. I would think that this would be covered, especially in an HMO. HELP!

Have you posted this question on the Virginia board? There are a few insurance people there who may be able to help you.

Is it Healthkeepers Plus HMO or just regular Healthkeepers HMO. If its Plus, from what I've read, yes it is covered. If its employer based Healthkeepers HMO, then it would be a rider the employer would have to include (purchase) in order for it be offered to employees.

Thanks for your response! I didn't post on VA board before, but I just did. I'm sorry, I'm new and didn't know where to post.

It's not Plus, it's an HMO policy. Maybe I should call the "middle man" that we purchased the policy from? She sould know.

Oh no problem. You will probably get more reponses on the VA forum.

That's a good idea. Start there and see what info you can get.

Welcome to OH!

Tammy:

I am 50 and my BMI is 40.  I am in VA also.  Where do I post to see if Anthem Healthkeepers covers the lap band surgery?

thanks
