I have had labs done once, 2 months ago and after repeated calls to the surgeons office to find out what the results were....i still do not know what those labs show because I am always told the nurse will get back to me and never has :-(
i will get a bone density test done.  thank you!

In that case, I suggest calling wherever you had the labs done and asking for a copy of the results.  They'll give you a copy.  Usually you have to sign a form giving them permission to release them to you and they may charge you a small fee for making copies for you.  But it's really a good idea to always get a copy of the report for yourself anyway.  That way you can see what all the numbers are.

I never heard of signing a release and being charged for a copy of my own labs.  That is only the case if you are leaving the office and you want your entire chart.  I get copies of everything and have for the past 15 years at every doctor I go to - and that is alot and have never been charged a dime.

My lab has me sign a release every time I get copies.  And I just picked up a copy of the results from my bone density scan today and had to sign a release.  They don't charge for copies, though.  But I have had other docs and hospitals charge for copies.  They are allowed to by law.

Yeah, viactiv is calcium carbonate -- which isn't bioavailable in RNY guts which is why you don't see it used.  It's fine while you're preop and have stomach acid.. but afterwards, not so much.

One more caution -- some of the liquid calciums use questionable tactics.  If you see something like "1200mg calcium in 1 tsp" then be aware that is the full amount of calcium citrate -- not elemental calcium.  It's very confusing, I know.. but it's very prevalent in liquid companies.

If it sounds too good to be true -- it often is.

Keep in mind that you can dissolve Citracal in crystal light and drink it -- much cheaper and you KNOW what you're getting quality-wise.

Andrea- Is that the calcium you take? The Citracal?

Yes.

I don't dissolve mine, though.

I've tried several, but I'm doing Centrum chewables now.  I take 2 a day.

I have tried many and the only one I think is really good is the Bariactric Advantage Berry flavour chewable, I haven't tried the Celebrate multi yet but I do enjoy the calcium citrate in cherry flavour.  I only do chewables and tried many, I order them online and it seems to be the easiest way.  I read what Melthing Mama posts in her reviews, I don't usually totally agree about taste but I do try many that she suggests, the fish oil thing, ummm never, I don't care if it smelled like rose petals I can't eat fish oil.  lol

Good Luck
