Arm and Leg weakness and pain
My name is heather and I had gastric bypass surgery 4months ago and was wondering if anyone has experienced what I am now. For starters I started having arm weakness in both arms about 1 month ago. I thought it could have been because I wasnt taking all my vitamins daily so I made sure I did. Then about 2wks ago I went to both my primary care doctor and my bariactric doctor both thought it could be a vitamin dificancy. So with labwork it showed by B1 was low, but it was prior to surgery. I was told to take double the B-complex twice daily., But as time has gone on I now have weakness and dull pain in my arms and my legs. I am worried because I get very tired and my body does not feel right. Has anyone experienced this?
Well, copper and E can have neurological weakness as well. Iron overload can cause similar symptoms as well, but admittedly is less common.
So you only have B numbers? B12 is fine, yes. Did they test for plasma pyridoxal phosphate for B6? If so, then yes, 6 is low as under 10 is considered deficient (although this would be explained on your lab sheet). How did they test for B1? There's several ways -- Erythrocyte Transketolase Activation Assay? Serum, blood?
Yeah, it could be a vitamin issue. Plus, there are other vitamins that could be it -- not just the B's. Did they test anything other than the B's?
I guess the question is this -- if you're still having the problem, what does your doc say?
