Numbness & Dizziness

Hi Everyone!   I've been experiencing a lot of numbness and dizziness.   I've had numbness with my left leg for about four months. I'm concerned and now its starting in my right foot.   I also have had like vertigo for the last three weeks.   I've had my B levels checked last week and its about 1200.  So its not that.   I started taking USANA vitamins before Christmas and think maybe the dizziness is related to that??   I've seen a family physician and he seems stumped and I'm still waiting to hear the next step.  Has anyone else experienced this?   It will be two years in June, and I've lost 125 lbs.   I've been to my chiropractor to have my back adjusted thinking maybe its just a pinched nerve or something.  Appreciate your advice or help.

You said you had your B level checked -- I'm assuming you mean B12?  What about B1, B6?

When was a FULL and comprehensive blood panel drawn?

Complete was August and everything was fine.   I've been taking more vitamins since and eating well.

There are a number of vitamins that can cause this -- copper being one that isn't checked often as well.  Do you have your lab results?  If not, call your doc and get a copy of your own results.

The reason why I ask if you had a full panel is because a FULL panel really is quite comprehensive -- mine takes 15 tubes.  While that's more than most, it's more than 1 or 2 tubes.  But that's the only way to know where you stand.  And if don't have your results, I can't tell if that's your problem.  It very well could be.

Here's even a paper that lists neurological problems after bariatric surgery ---> here.

I'd print it out and give it to your doc.  If it's not a pinched nerve, or a skeletal thing, then it leaves bloodwork.  This paper can maybe give your doc an idea what to test.

I experianced the same thing... numbness in my left leg and it felt "heavy" all the time. I have had a little light headedness but always thought it was time for a protien shake. I saw a neurologist, talked to my surgeon, had all my labs checked - twice, had a brain and pelvic MRI... and nothing is wrong with me. The neurologist says it could be a virus that is causing the nerve damage, or that the rapid weight loss is the cause. The surgeon says no way that RNY is causing this. The nutritionist says that I am getting all the right foods and suppliments. The neurologist want me to take Prednisone, it will help me heal faster; the surgeon says dont it can cause weight gain.

It is getting better slowly... it was numb from the panty line to the toes. Now the numbness only goes from the knees to the toes.

Best wishes!

It might not be the same, but I had tingling and numbness in both arms, could not pick up a pen or change on table. Since I was diabetic for 15 years, doc thought it was neuropathy in the extremitites, typical. Problem, was, there was no problems in my legs. Then I got referred for testing for nerve damage by neurology experts. Glad I did, I had 50% constricted spinal/injury to my cervical. I had fallen numerous times on the stairs. Anyway glad I had it checked, now I have titanium plate and screws, but no chance of much further damage. Some of feeling coming back now. Been 6 months, fusion starting to take place. I had gone regularly to chiropractor, to see about this issue, but it took the neurology folks minutes after the MRI. Anyway, I am beginning to start my regular exercises, but very sore still.
Had my RNY a little later then you, July 08. I put a fraction weight back on when they shot me full of steroids before my surgury on cervical spine. I have lost that weight now. Anyway, go with the experts, and don't give up when one doesn't know. Good luck,
Jon
