Poll: Treats post-op -- how often or not at all?
Having RNY has been the best, most appreciated tool I have ever received. 105lbs Gone!
I am 12+ months post op + still slowly losing weight. I too do not dump on sugar. I
also feel we have to Live life after surgery. Denying myself every treat, all the time, sets me up for failure. I could not drink pre-mixed protein shakes so, made my own. I also eat protein first, then veg etc... but, have developed some of my own high protein, low fat, zero sugar recipes to act as treats when feel the need. I am also sensitive to food additives so, stay away from substitute sugars etc.. (which contain ingredients that made people dump btw). The other driving force in preparing your own stuff is cost...protein bars, drinks etc.. seem expensive. Have you tried making your own ice cream?

I had the Ds. My rule is to always get in my protein, 100 grams per day minimum, usually closer to 120 grams, and my vitamins/supplements, and then I have what I want. I know there are certain things that will give me a bellyache or gas, so I avoid those foods or eat them in extreme moderation when I know I'll not be out in public for the appropriate amount of tim afterward.
Easy peasy. Maintaining 240 pounds lost over three years out.

Depends on what you mean by treats. I really limit sugar because I dump on it. Tonight at dinner I did have one bite of ice cream. We went to restaurant where you got dessert with your dinner, you know, all for one price, and it's an Italian place so dessert is spumoni ice cream. Well, I said I didn't mine, but I ate a bite of my partner's. At Christmas time I ate half an oatmeal raisin cookie and at Thanksgiving I ate one chocolate chip cookie.
Mostly, though, I have healthy treats. I make protein ice cream sometimes, with no added sugar, of course. Which is fine to have as often as I want it. And I really like my protein shakes. They are a lot like a treat.

I have treats when I feel like it. I try to stick to no sugar added puddings - but do have chocolate and other sweets on occasion - in pretty small quantities. I do stay within my calorie goals - so if I do eat something that is a treat - I still stay within my daily calorie restriction - which right now is 1500 cals. I do workout though - 5 to 6 days a week for 1 hr and burn 400 to 500 cal's each workout day. At this point I am losing between 5 & 7 lbs per month.

Just be careful to never treat food as a reward. Food is just that...FOOD. If we use it as a reward, you bring the emotional back into eating and it isn't healthy. i am not saying you can't enjoy food. Just don't ever use food as a reward. It is a fast boat to failure.
