Why did you go off your thyroid medication?  Once you are hypothyroid, you need to take medication for life.  I could see lowering or raising your dose but going off it could be a big mistake.  I do hope you continue your your thyroid levels, I tend to think they will go out of whack again soon.  Once a thyroid malfunctions - it stays that way for life.  Just be careful, I hate to see your weight loss jeaperdized.

from a nursing standpoint...well my understanding of it all...once you have an underactive (hypothyroidism) thryroid then you will be on meds for life...

I ws just diagnosed with hypothyroidism and my surgery is on the 25th.  I was given meds to start taking after my surgery.  I'm hoping that will help me feel a little better.  I've been losing hair for quite sometime and I was seriously concerned about ending up bald after my surgery!  I bought a wig just in case...lol

Well I had my thyroid irradiated, from what  I understand I will be on meds for life. They may change... but that is what every three month labs are for. Good luck on your pending surgery and please work on taking your thyroid everyday on time.

Once you had your surgery don't take thyroid with your multi or your calcium because absorption of thyroid wiil decrease. Also if you drink lots of soy, watch your thyroid level closely.
