Quite common. I believe they strap you to the table and elevate the head end a bit---supposed to make your organs more easily accessible.

While there is, in fact, a vitamin deficiency that starts this way -- I'm guessing it's not that since you are so early out of surgery.

However, I'd call the office on Monday and tell them about it because it should be explored.  A nerve could be pinched, it COULD be that deficiency, or it could be something else entirely.  At the very least, it should be notated in your chart.

Im not sure, but did they do a spinal epidural block?  If so- you could be having some lingering effects from that.  Also, you could have a pinched nerve or cut nerve (they do cut some nerves in the surgical process) somewhere.  Sometimes, the body will "transfer" pain or sensation to areas other than what is really involved.  Like, you break a toe, but your hip is what is hurting kinda thing.  In any case- I would put a call in to the surgeon, just so they can document it on your chart and let you know if they want you to follow up with a visit now, or practice watchful waiting until your next visit to see if it improves.  Also- as a hind thought- have you been getting your walking in?  Any other symptoms (redness, streaking, swelling, bruising, pain) at or near the numbness or anywhere on that leg?  If so- call your Doc immediately- could be a blood clot (dont freak yet though).

It's a fairly common complaint, and has something to do with the positioning on the table for surery, and the length of time.  I've heard of it going away, and I've heard of it remaining.  That doesn't mean there couldn't be another reason for it.

Totally common.  It's from the strap they use to keep you down during surgery.  It'll go away in a while.

Yep, I had that happen after my second surgery for a leak repair. The whole left side of my thigh from my hip to my knee was numb. It went away after about 3 months. I would still check up with the surgeon on monday though, just so it eases your mind. Mine was from the strap they used to keep me on the table as far as the surgeon could tell.
I also ended up with a numb palm and three fingers from that surgery, this too was related to nerve damage, but was from my cut down. Again, it went away on its own, but that took over a year because nerves were actually cut and had to regenerate.

I have had this in both of my legs.  whenever I bring it up to the physician assistant, nut., exercise physiologist, my PCP, they all say "hmmmm, I've never heard of that happening before" and I insist there are others out there with the same issues and I bring up the table strap theory I have heard here before.  Oy.  Mine does seem to be going away though.  Had it pretty bad in both legs, now its mostly slightly in the right leg and I am just shy of 6 weeks out.  So it does seem to be deteriorating as the weight falls off.

My main issue though is my back and my tailbone.  My tailbone, iI am sure, is from a lot if sitting and laying the past 5 weeks, but the back is another issue.  I can not walk more than a half an hour without my back absolutely killing me.  I just went to my PCP on Friday because of this.  Before the surgery, I had rarely had back issues.  I work on my feet a lot, and could go a few hours without sitting down.  Now I can't make it thru a trip of the grocery store without having to sit down part way, go to the car or getting one of those motorized carts (and I feel like a total d-bag when I have to use one).  I haven't been back to work because of this and my PCP just wrote me off for 3 more weeks, to go and see an orthopedic doctor or sports medicine doctor.

Anyone else have issues with their back after surgery, but not so much before??

After loosing all the weight, I have been having issues with my low back. It is called sacroiliac syndrome for me. My hips are rotated different directions after all the years of the weight, and now that things are lighter, my joints are still trying to compensate for it, or that is how my chiropractor explains it. It can be miserable, and the adjustments at the chiro only help for a few days. I hope you get your issue resolved, back pain can be very debilitating.

Oy, I hope that this is not going to be an ongoing issue.  I know as it stands right now, i can not sit in the same position or stand for too long without pain.  I will see the doctors and hopefully get some good news!

OT, I noticed you are from North Dakota.  How do you like it up there.  I have a friend near Rugby.  He said they had about 2 feet of snow the last I talked to him.  He wants us to come and visit, but I think it will have to be in the summer months...
