Tingling fingers after surgery

My husband just had his RNY this morning and he's had an odd side effect since coming out of anesthesia.  Just wondering if anyone else has experienced numbness and tingling in their fingers (mainly the thumb, index, and middle fingers) after surgery.  It's not spreading up his arms but it also doesn't seem to be getting any better at this point.  He was in surgery for 4 hours so we're hoping that he was just on some pressure point and this will start going away.  Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Have they given you any explanation for why they're tingling?

That is the classic description of carpal tunnel syndrome.  It is possible his hands were in an odd position for 4 hours also possible he might have had extra fluid build up in his hands for some reasson. I had my RNY prcedure 5 days ago and my right hand was totally swollen for 2days post op

I figured out myself, it is when I have not taken in enough calories. My hands and feet get tingly and if I do not eat they get really cold.  Instead of relying on my tummy to tell me I am hungy, now I rely on my hands.... hee hee.

The same thing happened to his sister after she had her c-section with the tingling.  I rubbed his hands for a little bit and they just feel like they're really filled with fluids.

Does it happen to be the hand on the side where he had his IV? As a nurse, I often notice patients will have swelling in the hand on the side where the IV has been, and that could explain carpal tunnel type symptoms. Also, if he has it in all extremeties could be an anesthesia side effect or, possibly a calcium imbalance. Calcium imbalances usually also cause severe muscle cramping, that is probably an unlikely cause. I agree that it also could be from the position he was in during surgery pinching a nerve. That can still take up to a couple of weeks to improve.
Just my thoughts...
