Cheating on the liver shrinking diet

I have to admit, i just cheated on the liver shrinking diet. I have to be on it for 2 weeks. I have lost 10 lbs. My surgery is coming up Thurs. I just ate some rotisserie chicken and broccoli. Broccoli is my free food so that part is OK. I feel horrible but i couldn't help it.. What will it do to my liver? Chicken is protein and backed not fried. Should i go take a laxative? No more cheating the threat of not being able to have surgery for cheating is killing me.

No, you'll be fine.  No laxative needed.  You'll pass that chicken long before next Thursday rolls around.  Just do your best not to cheat again.  Good luck.

I don't know exactly which diet you are on... I will be on a totally liquid diet for two weeks... my doctor said the diet is not only to shrink the liver.  The second reason it to be sure that your intestines are "quiet" too.  If I am understanding this correctly, there are tentacle-like fibers in your intestines to extract nutrients when solid food is present.  These "tentacles" are tricky to work with during surgery, so it is better if they are not there.  They are not present when you are on a liquid only. So for my diet, good-for-me-foods are just as detrimental as other foods.

Now, I will not be able to have even broccoli, so I am not sure if this information is helpful... but I am sure if you stick to your diet from now on... you wont have that much trouble...

Good Luck... I start my diet next Thursday!  I am sure I will need support too!

The tentacles are called villi but I don't understand what your doctor meant about them not being present when you're on liquids.  They are part of the lining of your intestine.  They are there all the time, when you're eating, when you're not eating.

And they do extract nutrients from solid food, but they also absorb the nutrients from liquids.  Like, if you drink a protein shake, those villi grab the protien from the liquid and absorb it.  If they were not present when you just drank liquids, there would be no point in drinking a protein shake because you would be unable to absorb the protein.  Know what I mean?

My doctor said they were more active and that made the procedure more complicated. I probably just heard they were not there... the doctor made a note of there being more than one reason for the all liquid diet...

I do know what you mean... and I appreciate the information...

All I know... is follow the doctor's orders!

Hi. I live in Clayton as well and have my final pre-surgery appointment next week. I was wondering what liquid diet you were on for liver reduction. I think that they want me to use a shake called Bariatric Advantage.  If that is what you used can you recommend the best flavor?  Thanks!
