Cheating on the liver shrinking diet
Every surgeon has their own guidelines and reasoning for it. Mine required two weeks prior clear liquids only too, and I even started early so I could slip into a cancellation slot if possible! Sure enough, one came up two weeks early and he knew I'd been doing two protein shakes a day for months (I did Herbalife to lose my pre-op weight) and that I'd been liquid only for a week and he said that was ok! When I asked post op, he said my liver was not in the way at all.
So don't berate yourself about it, it's already done... you've admitted to it... now have you learned from it? That's what life's challenges and lessons are about! So maybe you can work on the cheating in and of itself. I know... we've all been there, done that! Just remember, your surgery is a tool, and carries no guarantees. You've got plenty of time to work on your food issues post op! Cuz the better you stick to your dietary plan... the more successfully you'll heal, lose and even more important... keep it off!
Best wishes to you Shea, on a successful surgery, speedy recovery and successful weight loss!

Like others have said, you're all kinds of fine.
One thing that helped me stay on that stupid diet, was just KNOWING that I could have that chicken again, later.
Unlike in the past, diets were a lifestyle, with no end in sight. But after WLS, that chicken is just great protein, and you'll be able to enjoy it guilt free. Try to think of that, the next time it's calling your name during the liquid diet.
For some reason, just knowing that off limits food won't be for long, makes it easier.

There is no evidence that a liquid diet is in any way superior to a high-protein, low-carb diet of REAL FOOD. The object is to use up the glycogen stores in the liver, which changes its texture. The glycogen stores in the liver come from carbs, whether liquid or solid.
I view two-week liquid diets as just one more way that fatty-hating surgeons get in a last dig.

I agree with MsBatt.
If you feel too deprived and must "cheat", just make sure you choose well, and don't eat carby stuff to build back up the glycogen stores in the liver.
I'm not convinced of the benefit of some of the surgeons prerequisites, but do feel that shrinking the liver and making more pliable is in your best interest. YOU want the liver to be easy for the surgeon to work with so your surgery is as safe as possible, and the liver is the first to respond carbs, or lack thereof.

Hey Girlie! When is/was your surgery?
Mine is October 7th, so I'm just about to start my 2 week pre-op diet.
I had a "reality check" last night about how this IS major surgery, etc...and it scared me a little bit.
But, I made the decision to do this 7 years ago, so I am very excited the day is near.
I'm new to this site (or any sites like this).
Would you care if we kept in touch about one another's progress from time to time?

i'm 5'6" and 273.. she even said to eat breakfast, but nothing after 10am. my surgery is tomorrow at 7am... so i can't believe that having a little something would be horrible. but i would also be paranoid that i was doing something wrong, so i'd probably call the doc and talk to him/her about it first.
