Can you take excedrin after RNY?

Any tylenol containing product that is taken in excess can be hard on the liver.

The key is not to overdo the tylenol, and that is why the FDA has required manufacturers to put yellow-box warnings on Tylenol-containing products -- because so many products have tylenol in them and people are overdosing on tylenol without knowing it.  Taking a cold medicine then taking tylenol for aches and pains as well, for example.

However, post-op, we have few options for pain management.  It's tylenol or scripted relief.  There's ultram (tramadol), fioricet (which is butabiltal, caffeine, and tylenol), narcotics pain relief that is cut with tylenol such as vicodin, lorcet, tylenol 3, etc,  There's just not much left to RNY patients with the removal of NSAIDs from our choices.

Depends on which WLS you're planning to have done; if you're talking about RNY you can't take Excedrin or any NSAID, because of the risk of ulcers in your blind stomach. If you're getting the DS, you can take Excedrin and or NSAIDs. I'm not sure about the Band surgeries.

I don't know what the story is about caffeine, I've had RNY and  the DS and wasn't told I couldn't have caffeine with either one of those surgeries.

I was told only Tylenol post-surgery. I used to have daily headaches and alternated between Excedrin, Ibuprofen and Tylenol. After my surgery the headaches stopped. I rarely have a headache anymore and usually those are related to allergy/sinus issues. I don't know if it was the weight loss or the forced "cold turkey" elimination, but it has been a very pleasant benefit. I had to REALLY be hurting to want to take the liquid Tylenol.

Good luck!
