Well I am now 4 days post op...Have had a few ups and downs since but handling them pretty well...The gas is just flying out (thankfully)  one question though I am eating sugar free jello and it hurts...Nothing else is hurting going down just the jello...Anyone else experience this or am I just weird?

It was uncomfortable for me a few times as well. Make sure it's almost liquid before swallowing, that helped me. Also I noticed that when I made jello it went down easier than the store bought stuff. When I tried it the first time in the hospital it hurt going down. It'll get better!!

 Hey Laura,
Just experiment, sometimes jello hurts and sometimes just liquids hurt. Tonight I ate too much soup and dumped.. less than a pretty experience. Glad to hear the gas is flying out of you. I wish mine would hurry up!!

Sometimes sugar free Popsicles are soothing to the stomach when other things are irritating.

Thanks guys I will have to make jello tomorrow instead of the premade cups....The rest of the stuff goes down pretty well so far...I was really worried about the protein drink today but it went down great....

Hi Laura!
Glad to hear from you! At first, all cold items hurt my stomach. Drinking something warm sometimes helped. I don't know why the Jello hurts? Do other cold items hurt too or is it just Jello? Sometimes it's just "grouchy pouchy" and there's not much you can do. Maybe you are weird...LOL!  Nah, it just works that way. Nothing much hurts my stomach anymore unless it is way too dry and overcooked. Oh, coffee can hurt if I drink it too fast...yes, it is decaf. I've been drinking frozen shakes since the second month out and they did kinda hurt me for a few months...only early in the morning. It is strange but it's fine now.    Connie

I just posted about this on the RNY board in the last 5 minutes!!!!!   That's so wierd!  I'm almost a year out, and haven't eaten SF Jello for quite a while, but have had it a few times in the past week.  It feels like it's swelling inside my pouch after I eat it.   Ugh!  I didn't have any trouble with it at first but now I sure do.  It seems like it would just melt right away, and it's actually almost liquid before I even swallow it, so I really don't understand why it's hurting.

Hi Laura, glad to see you're doing okay.  I've been looking to see you on here since  your surgery.  I couldn't eat a whole jello cup for about a week or so after surgery, and had to take tiny bites and squish them around in my mouth before swallowing.  I liked the ones I made better, but mostly because I could pick flavors like peach or kiwi strawberry or strawberry banana, over lime, cherry or orange!  Concentrate more on fluids than anything else right now and you'll do fine.  Congrats!

What do you guys mean having the jello 'almost liquid'?  I hear two things, one being eating it as jello and two eating it before it molds into jello if that makes sense.  I dont understand.

I take it they mean eating the jello as jello but keeping it in your mouth and chewing until it's all dissolved.

What about making the jello and drinking it before it sets? Would that work better or is it defeating the purpose of feeling like you're actually eating something?

Jello never hurt my stomach, but to this day cold water hurts and makes me feel weird when I first drink it! After that first sip and the pain goes away I can drink without any problems. Weird! I hope it goes away.....
