Please Help me Im scared to die gallbladder surgery
Hi everyone, I am 28 years old I take 10mg of Norvasc for my blood pressure, so my bp is usually around 130 over 85 to 90 I weigh 266 pounds and I am a smoker, I am having gall bladder surgery thursday of this week, I have never been put to sleep before my surgeon told me all the risks and I am scared that I am going to die, please if you have any information to share with me, is it likely that I will die because of my obesity???
I was obese when I had my gallbladder surgery. We all were obese when we had our wt loss surgery. There are risks involved with anesthesia. But we have to have it. You really should try to quit smoking before your surgery though. I smoked as well and let me tell you...it's not fun after surgery to try and take deep breaths and your risk of pneumonia is greater.
Good luck to you dear. I hope it all works out.

I had my gallbladder removed in 1987 when I was 23. I was very overweight 300+ and had a baby 4 months prior. I also had open surgery 8 to 10 inches. I had no problems and healed quickly. Take deep breathe and relax. The doctor must tell you the risks and there is an elevated risk when you are overweight. I'm sure you will be fine and come through with flying colors. I'll say a prayer for you. Good Luck!

There is always the risk of death and they need to tell you this just so you are aware. What they don't tell you is those risks are small. The risks do go up with weight and being a smoker, and high BP but the risks are still small. They just need to make sure you are aware that there are risks to cover their butts.
I had gallbladder surgery when I was almost 300lbs and I was only 3 weeks postpartum and I had never been put under before. I was in so much pain and could not keep food down I was willing to take the risk. They found gall stones in my pancreas.

I am a nurse and take care of a lot of patients after they've had their gall bladders removed. It is a relatively easy surgery to perform, with very few risks.
That consent form you have to sign is scary, no??? Most of that stuff never happens.
I had my gall bladder removed when I was 5 months post RNY. It was an easy recovery.
Breath. You will be fine.
Take your Norvasc the morning of your surgery, unless your surgeon tells you otherwise. Oh, and quit smoking.

I had my gallbladder removed two years ago. That was my very first surgery ever, and first time under general anesthesia. it was done laparoscopically. I did a lot of research online before the surgery, so that I know what to expect. I also planned for open surgery in case they have to switch during surgery. There is nothing to be afraid of! I actually passed out three times in a month from the attacks. Staying alone, that might be more dangerous than the surgery itself. Three days after the surgery, I was out shopping! Good Luck.
My doctor removes your gall bladder when he does the RNY procedure. I was scared to death before I had my surgery, so I can relate to your feelings. I was in tears in my doctor's office for my pre-op appointment. I told him I knew I wanted to have the surgery, but I was scared to death to go through it. He gave me an anti-anxiety medication to help prepare for the surgery. I was so glad he did. Maybe you should call and see if they can give you something.
Good Luck! You will do just fine!

what kind of surgery are you having? Are they going to do it laproscopy? if so then take a deep breath and relax... I was in my late 30's, weighed more then 300 pounds and smoked about 2 packs a day... it was same day surgery, and the same day I ended up walking to the store a couple of blocks away to go get a pack of smokes. (My mother was making me nuts). the second best thing I ever did, the best thing being deciding to get the lap band surgery. You will feel so much better...
