wow--glad to hear I'm not alone.  No diagnosis yet though.  After gastric I was in the hosp. for 2 weeks w/ severe diarrhea.  C-diff was ruled out and my colonoscopy was fine.  Am not on lomotrol, welchol, and caltrate  (for ulcers).   I **** all the time; before meals; after meals; during meals.  Sometimes I can't make it to thje toilet and I start ****ting in my pants.  I fart and fart all the time and the odor of my gas and feces would knock over a rhinosauras !!    It really is so damn frustrating.  It's hard to work, socialize, shop, etc.  Any advice ??????????????????????
THANKS

So glad I'm not alone either.  I fart and fart and belch and belch....check out the celiac.org site ...I'm trying to cut out the glutens.  I don't have diarrhea all the time I go between constipation and diarrhea all the time.  I know what you mean about work and socializing...just going to church I'm up and down to the bathroom and I blow up inbetween.  My DH understands BUT I don't ....we should all be friends ...I'm on gluten free to see if that helps.  It's hard but I'm trying anything that might help.  I see the doctor again on July 18th.  I'm hoping this helps...kind of...it's hard but it's worth trying to get this to stop.  I've had trouble at times too getting to the pott...thinking I just had a fart.  Just make sure you are taking your supplements and getting your water...the diarrhea leads to dehydration.  Good Luck Patty

Find out if your RNY was distal or proximal...it could be how your surgery was done...all the diarrhea..Have you talked to the surgeons office.  I had a wonderful first year then 1 yr and one month this all started....take care Patty

Hi all

I had DS Surgery 12-15-08 and I have lost 144+ lbs. I have also had a terrible time with Gas sometimes sever bloatring ect. I have found two things work well. The link above is for an internal deoderant. Its cheap and pretty effective. Also, I think I may be having Gluten reactions as well. Seems I  CANNOT eat plain donutes a all. They make me blow up like a ballon that is about to pop. Doing so sent me to the emergency room via ambulance the other day. I have found a very effective quick cure to it all so far. l simply lay on my right side for 8-20 minutes. Its seems to subside  nearly  completely.

Hope this helps someone.
BTW, DR. Greenbaum in NJ is one of the best surgeons I have ever had and the care in NJ was excellent. I could not have asked for a better outcome. I just have to still figure out what I can and cannot eat.

Hi all

I had my surgery back in 09/03 i have had a few issues but was doing fine till this April.I thought i had the flu until after a month n a half with flu symptoms and forty pound weight loss went to PCP.She sent me to gastro and ordered various tests ...found nothing except what i knew i had that WASN"T bothering me hyneial hernia.Had Endoscope A ok had Colonscope A ok then i started feeling weak dizzy and started to sweat from my head everytime i eat.and being summer and very hot in Arizona the AC made me freeze i would have to leave or take a jacket into resturant.I had several tests for Celiac all came back negative my surgeion via Email without seeing me in four years informs me i have Celiac.I drove the 100 miles to see him and without doing anything except his nurse taking my weight n my blood pressure again told me i have Celiac. With my lab reports in hand and all tests confirming I DID NOT HAVE CELIAC he told me once again i did.Now with very swollen legs each weighing around fifteen pounds full of fluid and no script for lasix to relieve the burning n tightness in my legs i had to quit work since i can't get support stockings on and top of feet burning i am at a loss.I would really like to know if anyone else was diagnosed with this like this. The Dr stating no scope goes low enough to confirm my Celiac due to the duo denial switch? I would really like to know what everyone thinks...PLEASE I AM DESPARTE and VERY VERY MALNURISHED to where as they are thinking of giving me intervenious feeding.....PLEASE IM VERY DESPARTE thank you all for your time god bless....pray is my savior........................god bless everyone and hope everyone else is healthy out there .....Kelli

I had my Open RNY in 9/03 as well, lost 100 pounds with no problems and have done fine.  I've gained back 30 pounds, so am still at 70 pounds lost and trying to get back on track to lose those 30 pounds again.  I've been having some intestinal "issues" over the past year or so, and took a look at what I was munching on during the day - realized that most of my grazing involved wheat-based foods like crackers and breads.  So I did an "experiment of one" and eliminated all gluten from my diet for three weeks.  And I mean ALL gluten! Then I took one day and ate like I used to, including a sandwich on regular bread, some crackers, and pasta for dinner.  Lo and behold, within 24 hours all the symptoms - horrible gas, bloating, cramps and diarrhea - returned.  Needless to say, I have eliminated the gluten for good this time.  I decided I didn't need to get a diagnosis to know that gluten doesn't agree with me.  However, I do have my yearly physical in two weeks, and will review my new gluten-free diet with my doctor.

I'm still eating all my protein, veggies and fruit.  My grains are now mostly corn, rice, millet, quinoa and blends.  I've tried some commercial gluten-free products - they're pretty good, though expensive.  I love cooking, so will be experimenting and got a gluten-free cookbook.  It didn't cost me anything to do my experiment, and the result was that I now feel much better and I finally got all the junk food out of my kitchen!  Just my own experience, but if it can help you out I'm glad.
