I currently take Cymbalta for my Fibromyalgia and I also have problems with migraines.  Is anyone out there taking Topamax for migraines as well as Cymbalta.  If so, any side effects and how helpful is the Topamax for migraine prevention?  Thanks for your help.
Marsha

I can't speak to the Cymbalta, but I take Topamax.

The first couple of months while you get your dose adjusted, will most likely be hell on Earth.  You'll feel dopey, forgetful, aphasia (trouble finding words or phrases), could hallucinate, have issues sleeping, etc.  It's nicknamed 'Dopamax" by many people for this reason.  It's great fun.

Now I only have issues when I change between manufacturers.  I *was* taking name-brand only, but there's a new policy and now I'm having to file a grievance to get approved for that so I'll be up for the next 3 days as I'll be switching back to generic.  I'm so not looking forward to it.

It does have the helpful side effect of weight loss in many people.

sorry you are having trouble with the generics.  I switched to the generics a few months ago and I didnt' notice a difference. My pharamacist actually told me that if I did notice a difference, he would take them back and fill it with the brand name for me, but I didnt' need to.  But then again, I never had any side effects from it in the first place.

I am a 5'7" 30-year-old female recently diagnosed with fibromyalgia and am taking 60mg Cymbalta and 100mg Topomax daily. I had been taking Topomax on and off since I was a teenager for migraines, but the Cymbalta was new since the fibro diagnosis became a possibility. My mother had gastric bypass when I was a teen, and my weight has fluctuated as an adult between 135 and 210, mostly hovering in the 155-165 range. Since taking the Cymbalta/Topomax combination, my weight has dropped to the lowest is has been since becoming an adult - 130. I feel so small. My appetite is hardly there; I have to force myself to eat, which I do. I also supplement my diet with meal replacement shakes and take vitamins. The meds are strong. It's nuts.

I have fibromyalgia and migraines as well but won't take cymbalta because it has the known side effect of weight gain - be careful. I do take topamax and have for years. I have never had any side effects but I think I am one of the few. I take it at bedtime, so I think that helps. It works wonders for migraines. Before taking the topamax, I got migraines daily and sometimes they actually lasted for 3 days. I would end up in the ER atleast 2-3 times per month for IV pain and nausea medication. It was horrible. Now with the topamax - I take 150mg at bedtime - I barely get them - maybe 2 per month. Some have the side effect of weight loss and lack of appetite but I never found that to be true.
