Doc says I can drink while eating....

I am so confused! My doc said now that its been six months since my surgery that I can now drink while I eat. Has anyone else been told that? I don't plan on doing that, but I'm trying to figure out why if its such a bad thing why I am approved to start doing it....

Also she said that my labs are great, and that my weight loss is fantastic! Yay me! I am very happy....

Makes no sense to me.  Drinking while you eat will cause food to leave your pouch faster, making you hungry sooner.  I don't understand why that would be OK now that you are six months out.  Actually, I would think it would be less OK.  Now you are able to eat more and malabsorption of calories will start to decrease, so it seems to me like it would be even more important to stay feeling full as long as possible.

Congrats!  It never was such a bad thing, its just one of those things they try to convince wls patients they need to do, doctors will tell you any lies to try to make you and themselves successful.  My doctor said I could sip from the second I started eating whole foods and I have been at goal for years now, my goal not his goal that was 40lbs higher then mine.  If you don't absorb things that pass through your stomach too quickly because the water pushes it through then how is it we ever absorb anything from protein drinks.  I can understand if you drink too much and the food moves to quickly it might stretch the pouch or cause you to get hungry sooner, but eating bone dry chicken that gets stuck in your throat isn't very appealing either.  It's a balance, seriously I read about all these people with teeth issues and I always think to myself its because they don't drink while they eat, to clear the food from their mouth and teeth.  This is my personal opinion, anyone and everyone is free to disagree, but its hard to disagree with success and no I don't drink protein drinks ever.  Never once had bad labs since the first were drawn.

Hugs Heidi

Good Luck

Hi Heidi and Thanks!  Wow thats the very first time I have heard that side of the 'drinking while eating' coin!   Thanks for that info, and congrats on staying at your goal. I hope to do the same when I get there! Thanks again!

I sip water while I am eating in small amounts and have for a long time with no effect on my weight, and like Miss Heidi, have not used protein drinks since my initial liquid diet. 8 years out and maintaining. (actually I dropped about 5 pounds this summer and don't know how it happened)
