Calling Vitamin People!

My husband went off to get some chewable vitamins.  He had a *very* specific list and reasoned that these would be even better since there for 50+   Are these extras a problem for my first month post op?  There's cal carbonate in here as well!  (Why don't they just do what we ask?  It would be so simple!)

My plan was to take Celebrate ENS but I can't stand the taste post-op!  Thanks everybody!

Most multis have calcium carbonate, not citrate.  That's because carbonate is cheaper and it's smaller, so the vitamin is not as big as it would be if it had citrate.  The carbonate is not likely to hurt you, you just won't absorb much of it at all.  So you  need to take calcium citrate too.

I say it's not likely to hurt you because some think carbonate can lead to kidney stones.  But the amount in your multi is probably not that much.

You can take those multi's, and I've used them. Very hard large tablet to chew.  Just get some calcium citrate YOURSELF, so you're not disappointed. Or order them online yourself.  I get my Epic Ultra liquid vitmamins online. I go to vitalady.com where I purchase my dry D3 and calcium citrate.  Reading labels is important--stress that to your "GOFER".  Dave

Why are you supposed to be off of it for a month?

I have to disagree with the above poster. I was in CVS a few weeks ago looking for Centrum Silver chewables like I always use and they told me they aren't carrying them anymore.  So, the pharmacist told me that the CVS brand is just as good.  So, I compared the bottles and I was quite suprised in how many of the vitamins were lacking in comparison.  So, they aren't terrible but they aren't as good.  I would take them back and get some Centrum Silver chewables.  If you can't get them at CVS- you can find them at Walmart or local supermarkets.

My next question - why are you holding off a month to take your calcium, iron, D and B12?  You should be taking it as soon as you get home from the hospital.
