For the Benefit of Pre-Ops: DSers, what are YOU eating today??

Pre-ops, before you pick which surgery, the efficacy and side effects of which you are going to have to live with for the rest of your life, make sure you are informed about ALL of your surgical options, including the duodenal switch.  If your insurance says they don't cover it, know they can be forced to cover it.  If your surgeon says he doesn't do it, you can find another surgeon.  If you hear ridiculous and awful things about it, especially from your surgeon who isn't qualified to perform it, research further!  You are a customer, not a beggar, for medical services!

Because with my DS surgery, I CAN, I will be eating:

Deviled eggs
Potato leek soup
Honeybaked ham
Deep-fried turkey (I get dibs on the skin - it's DS health food!)
Candied sweet potatoes with pecans
Mashed potatoes with crème fraiche
White aspargus with Hollandaise sauce
Creamed spinach
Cranberry sauce
Applesauce pie
Bread pudding (well, just a little of that, unless I save it for the last thing I eat before I go home)
Sparkling juices
Wine

I'm sure there's going to be more stuff, but I'm not the host this year.  One thing is for sure -- I will not feel deprived, or afraid of the food, and will be able to enjoy ALL of what I want to eat.

I am enjoying the DS life today for sure! Actually, this will be my third Thanksgiving dinner this year. A couple of weeks ago, we had an early gathering with my husband's family, at his sister's farm to take an extended family portrait so we got our feast on then too. We stopped at McDonalds for breakfast. Then when we got there, over the course of the afternoon I ate:

A couple slices of ham
Cornbread dressing
A couple slices of turkey
various veggie casseroles
Cheese grits with shrimp & sausage
A bowl of chili with lots of cheese and a few Fritos
Pecan pie (just the filling with the nuts)
3 small Reese's cups

Then, last weekend, I had Thanksgiving dinner with my brother and sister in our childhood home for the first time in a quarter of a century! We ate:

Turkey and ham
Cornbread dressing
Green bean casserole
Corn casserole
Mashed potatoes with extra butter
Pecan pie (again, yes it's my favorite)
Chocolate cake (mostly the icing, lol)

And today, it's just me and the DH at home. I woke up lazy this morning and just had a protein drink and a big ole coconut cookie for breakfast with my coffee. Now  we are having arguably the best cornbread dressing I have ever put in my mouth, full of chicken, sausage and oysters, served with cranberry sauce. I just ate a plateful and am trying to convince myself to wait 20 minutes before I go for another plate. LOL

I'm not a DSer, but...

Today, I had biscuits and sausage gravy for breakfast.

Then, I had some praline pecans for a snack.

For lunch, I had roasted rosemary & sage turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, giblet gravy, green bean casserole, roasted butternut squash, and cranberry-orange relish.

Later, I'm gonna have pecan pie with whipped cream.  And then a nap.

Ooh, ooh! I'll play!

We're being simple this year. Very, very simple.

Main course is 2" thick ribeye steaks, marinated in honey BBQ sauce.
As a nod to turkey, we're also having stuffing.
Then there are the potatoes. They are our rosemary, garlic, butter and Hansen's Soda recipe, grilled at the same time as the steaks.
Pumpkin Pie
Apple Pie - all with heavy whipping cream of course.

later on tonight when we're hungry again it's hot roast beef sandwiches and homemade french fries.

Like I said. Simple. But good. Especially the steaks. They're from the cow that we raised this past year. Nom, nom, nom, nom!

OMG, those steaks sound AWESOME!!!  I haven't had steak in awhile...think I'm going to the butcher shop tomorrow to pick up some ribeyes (they're my favorite ever since my DS!).

I'm only one week out, but I'll admit that when I made the stuffing I did take a small bite.....

At the dinner table, I had a small bite of mashed potatoes with gravy.....left me happy. :)

Now next year....that's a whole other story. And hopefully Christmas this year will be more...I really want the ham I smoked from the pig we raised until 2 months ago.
