Not wise for lots of reasons.  A couple are that you do not want to stress your staple line.  Also, amazingly it is not the staples that hold your stomach together, it's the scarring and adhesions. The more dense the food the more your stomach has to squirm and churn to mix with stomach acids and pu**** through to your intestines.  Each time it does that it breaks those tiny strands of adhesions.  Adhesions never grow in the same place with the same quality.

Look, you are an adult.  Suck it is up do your post op diet.  Now is a good time to evaluate your food issues and clearly, just like the rest of us you have them.  Hunger is not an emergency.  Use that as a mantra and repeat all day long if you have to.  This is a blink of an eye of time in the whole scheme of things.  We are talking a few weeks out of your entire life.  You will survive it.  Find something to do to keep yourself busy.  You'll find that when your time is not wrapped up in food you'll have more time to live life.

This isn't about judging, this is about being an adult and following your doctor's advice.  I doubt you are going to get anyone to validate your cheating on a post op diet.  You are at risk for a leak at this point.  How will you justify months of recovery because you wanted mashed potatoes? Get a leak and you are talking months and months of no food.  Is it seriously worth it?

At one week out I drank some protein that had some tiny undissolved pieces in it.  The pain was unbelievable.  Mine is RNY, but I spend about 30 minutes thinking I was not going to live through the pain.  After that I followed the doctor's orders and stuck to liquids until I was cleared for mushies.

Seriously, what will happen, if at one week you're already considering breaking dietary protocols, is that you're very likely going to fail at your weight loss.

Not judging, seriously, but am so hoping that you will take a step back, smack yourself a few times, and get your good senses back in order.

You can do this.  The light is at the end of the tunnel and you can see it from here, so just hang on and work the program.

Wishing you much success as I know you can do this!!!!  I have faith in you!!!

Just a little perspective.. if you think you do not like liquids, you  will not enjoy a feeding tube for months if you find yourself with a leak.

Would you let your child be noncompliant with doctor's orders if it threatened their life?  Why is your life (that you obviously thought was important enough to try and save by getting an elective surgery) not as valuable that you would do what you could to protect yourself from harm, as far is its up to you?

No judgment.  Just askin.

I will either get stuck, come back up or go down slowly. Either way, it won't feel good. I was approved to eat soft solids and just accidentally ate 2 pieces of tuna too quick or didn't chew it enough. Felt like it stuck halfway down and hurt so much I decided to force it back up. Then
it felt better.

But when you do try your first solid, make sure you eat very little at once and make sure it's mushy like pureed. I wouldn't worry abput staples too much, they are titanium (at least mne are)  and more than likely, it would get stuck before it got that far. Also when you try your first solid, don't be surprised if someone tries to say "fiber from the veggies" would loosen your staples because it doesn't. I have had several salads and I don't think a fiber can push a titanium staple loose.

But always ask your doctors and surgeons to be sure. They know you better than anyone else.

Staples being titanium have nothing in the world with whether or not the OP could get a leak from stressing her staple line.  Healing stomach tissue is not made from titanium.

Seriously, if you don't know what you are talking about, please refrain from giving advice.  You could hurt someone.

Ohhhhhh my feelings are hurt.

Don't start BS with me because I wasn't talking to you. I was expressing details in my case only. I know what I'm talking about because I am still going thru it. Do you have any idea how much torque are in those staples and how hard they are?

I ate a small salad early on, and I didn't leak anything,. Why? Because my medical professionals said i could as long as it was chewed completely and slowly. There is also data that supports 99% of leaks happen within the 1st week.

What this person needs to learn about this board, it there is a lot of misinformation and BS also. I've even had people tell me I would "dump". Really? Ok... Everyone's case is different and that's why he/she should consult with her people before asking anyone here. That's what they are paid for.

My advice is for her to ask her medical people because anyone here could "hurt" someone.

By the way, genius, if the staples don't help hold the stomach together, why do they even bother using them? Amazing.

You **** this is how much you don't know.

Staples hold the stomach together short term, it's the scarring and adhesions that holds it together long term.  It's like a band, the sutures hold the band in place short term until the body engulfs the band in inhesions and if your doctor was having you eat solids a week post op, that goes to show the skill of your doctor.

The person needs to follow HER doctor's advice, not your ignorant BS.
