What happens if you eat solids too soon after VSG?
Awesome debate though! Just goes to show how little we all know and how much of all this is individual to us, to our surgeons and their programmes.
Good luck!!
Wow!
Thats some strong opinions being tossed about here.
I also am 1 week out and have been tempted to cheat, and I hate to admit it, but I have cheated.
I have been eating yogurt since day 4 and on day 5 I ate about 6 cheese puffs and felt like I had just eaten a 5 course meal.
It didnt hurt, just felt very full.
I AM NOT endorsing anyone to go against the recommended diet, but every doctor has different rules and every person is different.
One person may do something and not have any issues and the next person do the exact same thing and have to go to the hospital. Everyone is different. But your doctor is the one that was in there and knows exactly what he did and what your condition is. He has done a lot of these procedures and knows from experience what is best for their patients.
Im about a week post op and my dr also had me the day of surgery taking large pills by mouth and the second day i was on full diet with yogurts protine shakes broths jello i can have strained full liquids now even puddings and cream cereal thinned.. with that being said the cereal did not settle well today and ill revisit it another week but baby goids thinned are fine and all that it honestly is up to your doctors discretion.
What's so confusing/frustrating about your question is that each surgeon has his/her own protocol. Mine is the director at ... insert accolades here: top rated, best program in the Boston area, etc. She and her staff allow pureed/mushie foods from day 2. I enjoyed very small quanties of: refried beans, applesauce, yogurt, soup (miso soup - nectar of the gods!), very soft eggs, cottage cheese.
I swallowed large pills on day 1 post op in the hospital.
I suspect my surgeon wants her patients to feel as little deprivation as possible and to ease into eating small frequent meals. I eat 5x per day and a little something before bed.
