Im a new post op, and I have no plans of eating anything like this any time soon. I was wondering if any post ops 5-more months out ever eat total raisin bran, or just raisin bran. Its actually something I really like eating, but ive never heard it mentioned as an acceptable food. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Beth

How soon after surgery did you begin to eat cereal? Im still on clear liquids with a protein supplement. I start pureed foods in one week, so im still a LONG WAY AWAY from a bowl of cereal (even a small bowl!)Thanks!!!

Beth, I have eaten it occasionally. However, I ate some a couple of days ago and dumped badly on it. Ask your surgeon if it is something you should be able to eat. Being further out and being concerned about maintaining my weightloss, I usually avoid cold cereals because they are pretty much empty calories. However, Raisin Bran at least has some fiber in it. For me: When on REGULAR FOODS at about 8 - 9 week post op: 1/4 cup UNsweetened Raisin Bran with 1/4 cup skim milk - added 1 tablespoon powered milk (to boost protein) = approx 14 grams protein. The cereal was a breakfast TREAT and not a regular meal. As a 34 month postie, learning not to DRINK with meals has been the largest challenge - and will be a huge down-fall later, if not overcome. Really consider how incorporating liquids with meals affects you, and will affect your success. There are many ways to research this, please don't just take my word! Congrats on a new life! Make the best of it!

Unfortunately, I can eat anything with anything anytime anywere....and lots of it. But I could eat raisin bran when I went on mushy food...had to let it soak a little...I just couldn't take the milk...had to switch to soy. Ask your surgeon or nutritionist....I would think it would one of those things thats good for you soon after surgery.... And don't worry about the carbs. Right after surgery you just need to concentrate on what your Doc tells you and take in as much as you can. Its tough enough without worrying yourself about how many carbs are in 2 Tablespoons of cereal. Good luck...and I know you will do well... Hugs from the beach Charlie

I eat Rasin Bran as a snack on occasion. I know, it is not a great food, but for me, it is an occasional treat. I eat it dry, when I am craving something sweet. The only cereal I eat for breakfast is oatmeal with a few raisins when I eat out.

Hi Beth, The Raisin Bran is much too high in carbs. Check the box. I'm only allowed 30 carbs per day and that's not much. Also, raisins can get stuck getting into the stomach and can cause serious problems. Sandy
