when did yo have your initial gastric bypass? howlong did yo have to be at your goal weight before the insurance would pay for the pannicllectomy?
I still have 60 pounds to lose before I am at goal.
I need to start documenting all the probelems.
what other skin problems besides the bely button?

thanks for your help

My bypass was done on 3/31/10 -- almost a year ago.  I had just hit my personal goal when I made the consult appointment.  The plastic surgeon had me lose an additional 5lbs - so that my weight would be "ideal".

I also had rashes, skin splitting underneath my panni.

Just my experience... but getting approved for plastics was much easier than getting approved for WLS.  Recovery has been more difficult though as I've developed cellulitis around one of my drains - it's been pretty painful.  Hopefully, just a bump in the road.

Best wishes,
Laura

Its so funny you posted this.....I JUST had this happen for the first time recently! Kinda freaked me out... I noticed it felt sore and looked down and it was all red and then, your right...gross on the inside. I realized it was from my night sweats. Cleaned it out, triple antibiotic cream...all fine within a day or two. But now I keep it clean and dry!

This is very helpful as I am 10 months postop and I just discovered it this morning g.  Felt a weird feeling in my navel and poked myfinger in there only to discover the blood.   at the very least, I was alarmed, but not panicking.  My GP is getting me antibacterial cream.

I would like to add my 2 cents if you don't mind.

All of these suggestions sound very much like what your problem is.  However, on the off chance that you might have a nickel allergy, the snap on your jeans, shorts, skirt, etc. could be the culprit.

Nickel is the shiny silver finish on so many products and if you are allergic, as I am, the belly button is a very vulnerable place for a rash and then infection to start.  And it starts just with itching.  If an infection ensues, it can get smelly and scratching could cause openings and some bleeding.

It could be a fungal infection. Fungus grows in moist dark places. Try to keep it as dry as possible. Zeasorb powder is a good product I use on my patients. Apply with Cotton swab after skin is dry.
