Nothing in this world makes me more angry than someone who knows nothing of my situation decides to tell me I am not doing all I can do.

I diet every single day and have since 1992.  There are shockingly few days when I go off my diet.

I do not vacation in places where I cannot cook my own meals since I cannot eat in restaurants without some sort of gain.

I exercise every single day of my life.  Usually I have a pulse monitor that downloads my second-by-second pulse information into excel so I can make sure I am doing what it takes.

I have attended weigh****chers meetings religiously since 1992.

I do not eat bread, sweets or pasta EVER.  I will occasionally have a little potato or rice.  I eat very little fruit and absolutely no sweet fruit.

About 9 years ago I recorded every morsel of food that went into my mouth for 19 months.  Sat down with 5 different doctors to find out what was wrong with me.  Finally they suggested surgery which if it didn't save my life sure as hell saved my sanity.

I have killed myself to not gain and actually am pretty proud that I haven't gained too much back because the effort is ridiculous for me.

I am responsible.  You are an idiot.

Sorry, but this is a very, very sore subject for me.
Seriously Karen, you need to take THIS POST of yours to a psychiatrist who specializes in eating disorders.  This is VERY disordered thinking - nevermind the lunacy of thinking HCG is going to help you.  Every word of it screams Obsessive, frightened, controlling, hyperfocused, painful infliction of self-denial in the vain hope of doing the essentially impossible - maintain at goal after an RNY.

Diagnostic Questionnaire:

Do you care more about the virtue of what you eat than the pleasure you receive from eating it?
Does your diet socially isolate you?
Do you spend more than 3 hours a day thinking about healthy foods?
When you eat the way your're supposed to, do you feel in total control?
Are you planning tomorrow's menu today?
Has the quality of your life decreased as the quality of your diet increased?
Have you become stricter with yourself?
Does you self-esteem get a boost from eating healthy?
Do you look down on others who don't eat this way?
Do you skip foods you once enjoyed in order to eat the "right" foods?
Does your diet make it difficult for you to eat anywhere but at home, distancing yourself from family and friends?
Do you feel guilt or self-loathing when you stray from you diet?

A "yes" answer to 2 or more questions indicates a problem.

Some of this seems to overlap with some signs of anorexia and obsessive-compulsive disorder, including the exercise obsessiveness (a second-by-second monitoring of your pulse?  Really??).

What are the common signs of EDNOS?

Signs of EDNOS are the same signs you would look for in anorexia and bulimia nervosa.  Constant concern about food and weight is a primary sign, as are behaviors designed to restrict eating or compensate for eating (such as exercise or purging). ... Characteristically, these individuals have many rules about food -- e.g. good foods, bad foods -- and can be entrenched in these rules and particular thinking patterns. This preoccupation and these behaviors allow the person to shift their focus from painful feelings and reduce tension and anxiety perpetuating the need for these behaviors appropriately.

Really - you need to seek help.

 Karen,

I am currently on the HCG and I'm not taking phentermine to suppress my appetite. I have lost 6.5 lbs, day 6. As, I said before, I was starving with previous low calorie diet. Surprisingly, I am not hungry. It's the mental challenge of wanting to eat!

6 days? How about your father?

You're going to gain it back. Diets make you fat. So, good luck with that.

That's really mean. And my father is being followed by KAISER a major health organization here in California. He has not gained any back. You can state your opinion about the diet.....and thank you for your well wishes!

How long has your father kept the weight off?

Kaiser doesn't impress me, "major health organization" doesn't impress me. I know better than to be impressed by Big Medical Business.

You have been on a starvation diet for six days. You cannot keep up this starvation diet long term. You are or were morbidly obese (didn't look to see whether you're postop). Your body is one of those that is probably already trained by previous starvation attempts to hold on to calories, and now you are training it more by starving more. Chances are very good you have a disrupted metabolism for other reasons as well. It's extremely common for morbidly obese people.

So you have a less than 5% chance of losing weight and KEEPING IT OFF. Therefore I am not being mean. I am stating a fact. I wish you would not waste your money and harm your body by doing this kind of stupid thing. It's not going to work.

One would think that people who have WLS would "get" this concept. But I see the fad diets are still much beloved and are still sucking money out of people's pockets, and that is sad and silly.

I belong to another board and some swear by HCG.  Of course one will lose weight on 500 calories a day.  BUT the HCG supposedly works on getting rid of hard to release fat such as thighs.  Also it is supposed to assist in losing ones appetite.

Plus an additional 42.2lbs pre op! Starting weight 300lbs.

Release fat in the thighs? Are you kidding me? I had HCG through the ROOF with twins and I never lost a single pound from my thighs. That is just the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard in my life. HCG doesn't work that way at all. The problem with the original doctor who did that stupid study is that he made correlation equal causation. Which is you've ever studied medical studies shows you just how much bunk that is.

I haven't had a chance to read through all the responses, but I did post about this the other day when an article appeared about it in the New York Times.

I'm not a doctor, but I have been fat all my life. I'm not even particularly smart. But I have been pregnant twice in my life, and I can tell you my body was in full protection mode. Not only was I eating for two, I was preserving everything I took in. From a biological standpoint, we are programmed to seek and store enough nutrients to support two organisms. Even my hair, nails and skin were fantastic. And I gained weight. There is just nothing about this treatment that makes sense. Its counter-intuitive.

The NYT article mentioned an orthodontist who was charging upwards of $800 for a visit. There are so many things wrong with that, I won't even go into them all.

What makes me angry is how people looking for a quick buck prey on the desperation of people who feel frustrated and hopeless. Please don't fall victim.

I haven't read through everyones responses, but wanted to let you know that I've done 3 rounds of HCG shots and have lost 50 lbs. My doctor, who also used HCG, prescribed it to me. I haven't gained any of the weight back, and I was hardly ever hungry while taking the shots. For me, the down sides were that I was very irritable while taking the shots, and there are only a few very specific things you can eat, which gets verrrry old and boring.

And you've kept that 50 lbs. off for how long? Eating what?
