HCG diet? Has anyone tried it?
I diet every single day and have since 1992. There are shockingly few days when I go off my diet.
I do not vacation in places where I cannot cook my own meals since I cannot eat in restaurants without some sort of gain.
I exercise every single day of my life. Usually I have a pulse monitor that downloads my second-by-second pulse information into excel so I can make sure I am doing what it takes.
I have attended weigh****chers meetings religiously since 1992.
I do not eat bread, sweets or pasta EVER. I will occasionally have a little potato or rice. I eat very little fruit and absolutely no sweet fruit.
About 9 years ago I recorded every morsel of food that went into my mouth for 19 months. Sat down with 5 different doctors to find out what was wrong with me. Finally they suggested surgery which if it didn't save my life sure as hell saved my sanity.
I have killed myself to not gain and actually am pretty proud that I haven't gained too much back because the effort is ridiculous for me.
I am responsible. You are an idiot.
Sorry, but this is a very, very sore subject for me.

Does your diet make it difficult for you to eat anywhere but at home, distancing yourself from family and friends?
Do you feel guilt or self-loathing when you stray from you diet?
A "yes" answer to 2 or more questions indicates a problem.
Some of this seems to overlap with some signs of anorexia and obsessive-compulsive disorder, including the exercise obsessiveness (a second-by-second monitoring of your pulse? Really??).

What are the common signs of EDNOS?
Signs of EDNOS are the same signs you would look for in anorexia and bulimia nervosa. Constant concern about food and weight is a primary sign, as are behaviors designed to restrict eating or compensate for eating (such as exercise or purging). ... Characteristically, these individuals have many rules about food -- e.g. good foods, bad foods -- and can be entrenched in these rules and particular thinking patterns. This preoccupation and these behaviors allow the person to shift their focus from painful feelings and reduce tension and anxiety perpetuating the need for these behaviors appropriately.
Really - you need to seek help.
Kaiser doesn't impress me, "major health organization" doesn't impress me. I know better than to be impressed by Big Medical Business.
You have been on a starvation diet for six days. You cannot keep up this starvation diet long term. You are or were morbidly obese (didn't look to see whether you're postop). Your body is one of those that is probably already trained by previous starvation attempts to hold on to calories, and now you are training it more by starving more. Chances are very good you have a disrupted metabolism for other reasons as well. It's extremely common for morbidly obese people.
So you have a less than 5% chance of losing weight and KEEPING IT OFF. Therefore I am not being mean. I am stating a fact. I wish you would not waste your money and harm your body by doing this kind of stupid thing. It's not going to work.
One would think that people who have WLS would "get" this concept. But I see the fad diets are still much beloved and are still sucking money out of people's pockets, and that is sad and silly.

Ask me about pregnancy after the Duodenal Switch!
They're here! My surro-sons were born July 21, 2009. Welcome to the world, Benjamin and Daniel. We love you very much!
I'm not a doctor, but I have been fat all my life. I'm not even particularly smart. But I have been pregnant twice in my life, and I can tell you my body was in full protection mode. Not only was I eating for two, I was preserving everything I took in. From a biological standpoint, we are programmed to seek and store enough nutrients to support two organisms. Even my hair, nails and skin were fantastic. And I gained weight. There is just nothing about this treatment that makes sense. Its counter-intuitive.
The NYT article mentioned an orthodontist who was charging upwards of $800 for a visit. There are so many things wrong with that, I won't even go into them all.
What makes me angry is how people looking for a quick buck prey on the desperation of people who feel frustrated and hopeless. Please don't fall victim.
