Thank you so much sweetie for this post because I needed it. I think i get caught up in what someone else has lost too. We had our RNY on the same date. I'm still striving and pushing forward to get to my goal. It's a daily struggle and WE are going to win it. I look at what I have lost so far not how much more I have to lose. I use to be 349lbs and at almost 21months post op I stand 190lbs. I'm loving the fact that the 159lb person is no longer on MY back. My goal weight for myself is 170 and I will get there and so will you. I just love this site

I may or may not ever get to my perceived "goal" weight.  *shrug*.

I can walk all day and not get tired.  I can walk into any store and know I fit into a size 12 pants and a size med to large shirt.

My blood pressure is normal.  I'm not diabetic.  I feel better than I ever have in my life at age 53.

Cute boys talk to me and flirt with me...

Sex with my husband is AMAZING.

Am I a "failure" because I didn't (and may not EVER) reach some NUMBER on the gravity machine?  NO.

I celebrate every single day!

You need to have realistic expectations. Some people have 200+ lbs to lose. Of course, they'll lose bigger numbers than you.

I want to share two thoughts here that I don't believe have been brought up yet.

Before I had my WLS, one of my bariatric nurses told me not to even SET a goal weight.      She said it's not a good idea to make a number your goal.  If you set some magic number (say... 180, which at 5'11" had been MY number goal), and your body simply doesn't want to give up another pound after you reach 190, you're more likely to obsess over those last 10 pounds - when you SHOULD be rejoicing over all the pounds you DID lose!!!  Celebrate the NSV's - the things you can do that you couldn't before, the way clothes fit, the way you can move without huffing and puffing as if you'd run a marathon.

And another thought that never occured to me pre-WLS.  I had been obese pretty much my entire life.  I don't remember ever being a "normal" size.  One of the things carrying around a whole lot of excess weight does FOR us, is to give us REALLY STRONG BONES.  DENSE bones - that are heavier than those supporting a "normal" body.  Lead pipes.   So two people standing side-by-side who LOOK identical, same height, same size clothes - if one of them had been hauling around a whole lot of extra weight for a long time, they're likely to weigh significantly more than someone who had not.  That brought me a bit of peace when I'd get frustrated with my numbers.    Go ahead and ask someone how much they think you weigh.  I bet they give you a number that puts a smile on your face

Again, thank you for your comments and advice. Somedays I like what I see in the mirror. Especially when I see an old picture of me. But I know I should be smaller by now and it's my vault that  I'm not. My biggest fear is that I'll never get under 200 and I'll slowly gain all the weight back. Then, my RNY would be all in vain. But I really try to be careful and follow at least most of the rules. I waited so many years to have this surgery and I just don't want it to be a waste. So to ease my mind, I've set mini goals for myself. Like this month I'm trying to lose 5 lbs. I even dug up my old Jane Fonda step aerobic platform (does anyone still do step aerobics?!). But I remember it being fun and effective. Now just got to find the time and energy to do it! With a full time job and raising two kids alone, it's hard for me to commit to exercise.
