HELP! Liver Tests are very very high
With regard to #9: I had my gall bladder out 4 years prior to my RNY. 3 months after my RNY I went for my blood work and my liver enzymes were high. My PCP was confused because this is an indication of gall bladder issues and since I had none and was in no pain he scheduled a CT scan. The day before the scan I ended up in the hospital with severe pain. It turned out I had stones caught in my bile duct which also lead to pancreatitis. I was in the hospital for about a week. I am not the only one this has happened to. I suspected what it was because I had read about it happening to someone else.
There is also something called Sphincter of Oddi Dysfunction which is common in about one out of five people who get their gallbladder removed. I've had this for ten years sicne I got my gallbladder out. The solution is highly risky, and the problem not so bad, so I just whether the "attacks" (about four to six a year).... my liver enzymes are elevated after each of these attacks.
Post RNY the only way to diagnose it is through surgery, since the normal diagnosis is ERCP, which doesn't work with our gut configuration. Surgery to fix it has a high incidence of pancreatitis as a result. While pancreatitis is a possible complication of the Sphincter of Oddi "attacks" also, in the end I just wait and see when I get one. The more I avoid high cholesterol foods, the less trouble I have.

I chased my dreams, and my dreams, they caught me!
When I saw your post I was excited hoping to get some answers but it looks like we have a lot of the same questions :)
This sounds exactly like my journey right now. Today my PCP called to say that my abnormal liver function numbers are almost double what they were a month ago and triple what they were 6 months ago. I have an appointment with a G.I doc on Thursday, I rarely drink, don't use tylenol & hepatitis a,b,.& c were ruled out. I still have my gall bladder so who knows whats in store for me.... but whatwever it is I pray its simple and non evasive!!!
I wish you the best and some answers

Change is a Process Not an Event
hang in there. My husband had pretty high liver levels pre op (he had RNY in 2006). He couldn't take some nail fungus medication due to these levels and the doctors kept accusing him of drinking too much (he barely drinks beer)
1 year after WLS his levels were still high or a little higher. From the weight loss.
I think at year 2 his levels finally went back down to normal where they have stayed.
I don't have his actual #'s with me but hang in there. Don't stop looking for answers but it may just be the extreme weight loss and the fatty liver
