Kate,
I have no restriction with my band and I cannot tolerate even the slightest amount of fill because I can't swallow my own spit if I do.

I have to white knuckle it to not have any regain. I'm desperate enough to have another fill knowing that I will be unable to swallow my own spit, but I'm smart enough ( sometimes ) to realize that I will end up gaining more weight with a too tight band.

I'm so screwed, and I thought I had done enough research when choosing to have this band placed. I read OH and other WLS forums for a year before my decision to choose the band. I read a book from a former RNY patient named Danny who had a terrible experience with her bypass surgery and that sealed the deal for me, I wish I hadn't stopped my research there.

Both my daughter and myself have had terrible luck with our bands. My sister is just starting her research into which WLS surgery to choose and I will steer her away from the band with every fiber of my being.

Pumpkin, that is really rotten. Ther is no doubt that there are some people for whom the band simply does not work.

I get so fed up with the moaning minnies who say things like "I can still eat ice- cream, my band isn't working!" but your case really sucks! Was it that bad all along?

I see your surgery date was close to mine - do you have the "old" 4cc band like I do? It seems to me possible that the newer larger bands may be better for some as they can presumably have more precise fills. I know with my band (and clearly I can tolerate fills much more than you can) as little as 0.1 makes all the difference. But you can't go less than that - so I assume that with a larger band, something like 0.1 would have less effect and so might be better for ultra-sensitive people. Not that that helps you!!

I can understand your bitterness! Is there any chance of a revison for you? Would you want to go that route?

Kate

Highest 290, Banded - 248   Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.

Happily banded since May 2006.  Regain of 28lbs 2013-14.  ALL GONE!

But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,

My band was too tight from day one.

I used to have the old 10 CC band and I was revised to the 14 CC band, which has less then 3 CC in it.

We will be switching ins soon. I am hoping to revise to the sleeve.

Chances are you have metabolism problems. The DS has the best track record at changing metabolism. Please come over to the DS board and learn more. www.dsfacts.com is another good resource.

One of the ways to know if your metabolism is working against you is if you have problems maintaining weight loss despite eating a significantly restricted diet and getting physical activity.

IMNSHO it is utterly unrealistic to expect a human being to subsist on a cup of food three times a day, especially along with doing the heavy physical work of exercise. That is insane. There is a better way and that way is the DS.

I'm sorry you are struggling and feel so embarrased about coming to ask for help and advice. This site can be a great resource for you. I'm glad you are reaching out. Don't beat yourself up over this. A lot of people have been in your shoes and have opted for the DS. Come on over to the DS Board and you will find many who have successfully revised. Arm yourself with knowledge, come and ask as many questions and really do your research. We're here for you!
