We eat a lot of fats because we don't absorb 80% of what we do eat.

So, in wildly vauge terms, if a human needs 65 g of fat daily, a DSer human has to eat 330+ g of fat for it the same amount of fat be absorbed by their bodies.  And what isn't absorbed isn't absorbed for the good (effortless young looking skin*) or the bad (artery damage.)

*I'm half-Mexican and half-Sicilian and 64-years-old, and post-DS was the first time in my life I ever needed any moisturizers or body lotions...the rest of the time, I was plenty greasy all by myself.

Sue, I hear you on the lotions and moisturizers! I am MUCH less 'greasy' than I used to be, and I'm abouot to start doing hot oil treatments on my hair because it's just not looking glossy like it used to. (Does age cause that, too?) It used to be so greasy I had to wa**** every single day, and sometimes twice in hot weather. Now, I can go for days without washing it (if I'm not going out in publice, LOL!)

It's sort of a "your mileage may vary" kind of thing---some of us need more fat than others, and eating too little leads to constipation. (Well, for 'normal' people, too. *grin*) So in one sense we do 'have' to eat fatty foods, but each of us have to find our happy level.

Since we only absorb about 20% of the fat we eat, most of us have really GREAT cholesterol numbers. What you don't absorb can't hurt your heart/arteries, either. High cholesterol is a family problem for me, but since my DS I eat LOTS of fats and have a total cholesterol of 112. For the first two years post-op, I ate bacon---a good bit of bacon---for breakfast nearly every morning---I CRAVED it. Now I eat a variety of things for breakfast, but bacon still has a promenent place, along with sausage, eggs, ham, omelettes, and leftovers.

I never eat anything that's been made artificially low- or no-fat. Full fat salad dressings, cheeses, well-marbled meats---you get the idea. That's one reason the DS was such a perfect choice for me---I've always loved high-fat foods, and now they're actually healthy choices! Even the occassional piece of cheesecake. (*grin*)

Oh, and I make ice cream with heavy whipping cream and Splenda. Since the only sugar is milk sugar---and very little of that, since cream is low in lactose but high in fat---and I malabsorb most of the fat, I eat that stuff like it's going out of style!

I take 2-3 dulcolax every night just before bedtime and have had NO problems.  I'm up at 7 and on the throne within 10-15 minutes.

I had my gall bladder out Wednesday, too, and constipation is the furthest thing from my mind. I have the opposite problem! lol
Pretty pretty please, don't you ever ever feel like you're less than f*ckin' perfect.

I've taken 2 at a time and had no problem.  As someone else said, make sure you drink water and just keep watch for any problems/side effects.

Also, just remember that most of the reviews you read online for products are bad because people usually don't post when they have good experiences.  People are most often spurred to action when they have bad experiences, so just remember to watch for side effects but stay calm....and I wouldn't take 3 Dulcolax again.  :)

I had near bowel obstruction after my second round of plastics from the pain meds.......so I suspect you'll be just fine. Push fluids......don[t wander far from home....but your bowel motility is a bit compromised from the meds so it may all balance out. Good luck Susan

OMG!  Thanks for bringing up the fact that reviews state these side effects take place.  I would go a week without going, not constipated, I just didn't go.  I started taking a Dulcolax in the morning and one at night.  I did that for a week and still didn't go.  When I finally did go, I would start getting chills, I would feel like I was going to pass out and my stomach would kill me.  I thought it was from eating something I wasn't supposed to.  The last time it happened to me was when my husband and I made gluten free pizzas.  I just thought I couldn't eat gluten free bread either.  This has to be what it was.  It was so, so, so scary.  The two times this happened to me was while I was going to the bathroom and not afterward.  Out of curiosity, did you look up reviews on google or are they on this site???
